Student Leadership and Engagement, we facilitate purposeful involvement and leadership development that supports and enhances students' academic experience. We engage students in meaningful and memorable involvement experiences that create a sense of belonging, and we equip them with the knowledge, tools, and experiences to practice socially responsible leadership and contribute to a global society. Student Leadership and Engagement, serving the entire student body, provides leadership and vision for coordinating various forms of student involvement and engagement within
DASA at NC State University.
The department encompasses co-curricular leadership programs and initiatives; student organization management, education, and development; student governance; large scale campus programming; global engagement via Alternative Service Break, service, and civic engagement coordination; campus-community partnerships; academic courses; and a robust student intern program.
Primary Purpose of Position:
Coordinating with the Assistant Director for each programmatic area, the
Summer Program Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
Local-Service Learning and Civic Engagement Program Support (35%) - Coordinating with the Assistant Director, Civic and Community Engagement
- Assist the Assistant Director with enhancing reflection curriculum and assessment planning for the Mystery Service Saturday program
- Assist in co-creating and refreshing updated reflection and teambuilding activities for multiple civic and community engagement
- Assist in co-creating and refreshing updated reflection and teambuilding activities
- Co-manage the physical organizational and storage system and spaces for Civic and Community Engagement programs
- Supporting Service Zone coordination for Packapalooza
Alternative Service Break (ASB) Program Support (35%) - Coordinating with the Assistant Director, Civic and Community Engagement
- Assist the Assistant Director in re-developing the ASB Team Leader course, including refreshing the course curriculum, designing a cohesive course structure, incorporating key foundational theories, and integrating student wellness priorities
- Assist the Assistant Director in developing a course structure and curriculum for ASB Returning Team Leaders
- Assist the Assistant Director in re-developing the ASB Advisor training curriculum, including designing a cohesive training schedule, refreshing risk management training, and integrating student wellness practices
- Assist the Assistant Director in creating trip logistics and tracking documents for ASB trips
- Assist in the creation of individualized, in-depth digital and physical marketing materials for each ASB Experience
- Collaborate in the co-creation of social media posts and advertising of the ASB program, in particular, co-developing a promotion strategy and marketing plan for ASB trip applications
Student Organization Support (20%)
Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the annual Student Organization
ENGAGE Conference, supporting logistics, content development, and assessment.
- Support the annual student organization registration process, including content development, submission review, compliance assessment, and communication with organization leadership.
- Assist in the planning of the Fall Student Involvement Fair, including application review and organization, event logistics, and marketing.
- Support management of the Get Involved platform (Anthology), including maintaining forms, updating organizational records, and ensuring the system effectively supports student organization operations.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director to market current student organization resources, and research and explore emerging trends and opportunities for future student organization development and program enhancement.
- Supporting student organization engagement with Packapalooza
Departmental Outreach and Engagement (10%)
As needed, assist with and facilitate departmental presentations at New Student Orientation sessions
- As needed, assist with departmental outreach and engagement opportunities, such as staffing the information fair at New Student Orientation sessions
- As needed, assist with the operations of the James H. Woodward Student Involvement Center, including managing front desk responsibilities, organizing student organization mail, and providing customer service to students, campus partners, and visitors

- Experience supporting programs, events, administrative processes, student services, community-based initiatives, leadership development, or related work in an educational, nonprofit, civic, or community setting.

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- Experience supporting programs, events, trainings, or initiatives that involve student learning, leadership development, community engagement, organizational development, or campus involvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple staff members, departments, and program areas while exercising sound judgment, initiative, and attention to detail.
