Position Summary

Responsible for providing academic support to assigned list of student-athletes.

Duties/Responsibilities



  • Provide academic and support to an assigned group of identified student-athletes, with the oversight of the Director of Academic and Support Services for Student-Athletes.

  • Serve as secondary advisor to provide accurate information to student-athletes and coaches regarding maintaining the university's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) eligibility.

  • Referring students to offices and services on campus when appropriate.

  • Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes in regard to all conferences, NCAA and USI eligibility regulations.

  • Make decisions with the student-athlete's advisor concerning changes to students' class schedule and appropriate placement into other classes.

  • Work with student-athletes on strategies designed to enhance academic performance.

  • Provide counsel regarding career plans, academic difficulties and degree program selection.

  • Assists student-athletes with the monitoring of grades, communication with professors, and keeping track of assignments within guidelines set forth by the Director of Academic and Support Services for Student-Athletes.

  • Work with Faculty Athletic Representative to track on missed assignments due to travel.

  • Provides coaches with real time information on academic progress of student-athletes.

  • Monitor study hall.

  • Participate in annual continuing education as required by the NCAA, Conference and/or Institution is required.

  • Adhering to all NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules and regulations is required at all times. All violations must be reported to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Director of Compliance or their designee immediately.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge and Skills



  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Attentiveness to detail; strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle them in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Must possess strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively with students and faculty of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels.

  • Proficient use of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and e-mail.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.


Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Experience in administrative of intercollegiate athletics strongly preferred.

Experience working with diverse group of students including students receiving federal and state aid and students at academic risk.

Functional Requirements



  • Requires remaining in a stationary position at a desk or workstation for extended periods of time for many assigned duties.

  • Position requires physical access to classrooms, meeting rooms, and events throughout campus.

  • Must be able to proficiently use computers and computer systems (software and hardware) to set up functions, enter data, obtain information, process information, and create documents and reports.

  • Occasional extensive physical movement to oversee activities, to setup and make presentations, and to interact with
    attendees.

  • The application of effective diplomatic and interpersonal communication skills when mediating conflicts between competing interests, some of whom may at times express strong emotions such as anger.

  • Position requires creativity and resourcefulness in developing new ideas and in outreaching to prospective students.

  • The presentation of a consistently professional demeanor always, even in difficult, negative, or frustrating situations such as when handling staff or customer complaints.


Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Occasional evening and weekend hours including evenings and weekends may be required based on study hall coverage and student-athlete schedules.

Periodic travel with teams may be required.
