Job Summary

Under supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer, assist with the administration of staff and academic personnel matters within the Genome Center and research support service cores. Provide support, guidance, and policy interpretation to the unit's hiring managers on staff and academic personnel matters. Serve as unit interface to new and existing employees for general HR questions. Draft correspondence, offer letters, position descriptions, etc. Enter actions into respective campus HR portals. Serve as Executive Assistant to Genome Center Director.

THIS POSITION IS EXPECTED TO BE PRIMARILY ONSITE IN THE UC DAVIS GENOME AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES FACILITY BUILDING.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • High School Degree
  • At least two years experience in human resources administration.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources management to interpret and apply staff and academic personnel policies and procedures.
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and investigative skills to RESEARCH, evaluate and extract information needed to clarify, respond to inquiries, and requests.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills to manage problems in an objective manner and derive logical conclusions to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities, selecting appropriate courses of action for pursuit or recommendation to others, and meeting deadlines.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to communicate in person and on the telephone; to handle sensitive or difficult situations diplomatically; and to interact with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Writing, editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Schools, Colleges and University administrative offices, administrative staff contacts, and policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of bargaining units, both academic and staff related.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis HR portals such as AggieService, MyInfoVault, RECRUIT, TRS, and UC PATH.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Genome Center in the College of Biological Sciences, coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Annual funding is approximately $24 million from multiple sources. The Genome Center consists of 16 resident faculty and 28 non-resident faculty with appointments in various departments within the Colleges of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Engineering, the Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, the School of Medicine and the School of Veterinary Medicine. The population of the Genome Center and Cores averages approximately 250 faculty, staff, students, professional researchers, visiting faculty, and postdoctoral scholars.
