About the Fellowship Experience:

As an IgniteU fellow, you will work with internal and/or external companies under the direction of an assigned mentor. Fellows will learn consulting competencies, such as industry understanding, client/business perspective, leadership, resource management, opportunity development, consulting business knowledge, partnering and networking, personal interaction, managing quality, business ethics, and continued learning and development.

As a fellow in the IgniteU Fellowship Program, you will collaborate with team members to conceptualize, deliver, and support our clients and industry partners through today's ever-changing landscape. At NYSTEC, we have a vested interest in developing the workforce of tomorrow.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform consulting services in collaboration with a mentor and in a group with one to two other students.
  • Participate in weekly two-hour training classes built around a consulting-based curriculum that integrates design thinking principles, problem-solving methodologies, and human-centered approaches. Students will also submit a final report and deliver a final presentation at the end of the fellowship.
  • Develop and foster effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively share information that will make colleagues and clients more successful.
  • Learn and use appropriate NYSTEC tools and processes.
  • Demonstrate the NYSTEC Core Values and Behaviors.


The NYSTEC IgniteU Fellowship Program for fall 2026 will run from August 18 - December 11. Specific experiential learning hours can be negotiated based on the fellow's availability. Classes will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday evenings in all three NYSTEC office locations - dependent on school location/syllabus schedule - and virtually. These classes are mandatory, and students must attend in-person when the class is taking place at their home office location. All other classes must be attended virtually.

Pay rates are as follows:



  • Undergraduate students: $22.00/hour


About you:
Required Qualifications

  • Works under general supervision, receives minimal instruction for new assignments, and exercises high initiative and discretion in completing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to solve complex assignments requiring research and analysis.
  • Expertise in an area of specialization and the ability to apply and interpret fundamental principles, theories, and concepts within that specialization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage and develop key relationships with colleagues and clients through collaborative thinking and a customer focus.
  • Must be well organized, a good team player, and able to work well under pressure.


Education and Experience

This program seeks undergraduate students with exceptional technical and research skills, combined with effective leadership potential. We look for diverse educational and professional experience.



  • Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program and living in New York State when undertaking the fellowship.
  • Must have submitted application to the IgniteU Fellowship Program prior to job application.
