Summary:

The Director, ECP Marketing is a senior marketing leader responsible for shaping and driving brand strategy for a complex, evolving brand serving Eye Care Professionals. This role leads the ECP (Sales-facing) marketing vertical and a team of seasoned marketers, while playing a central role in aligning strategy, execution, and culture across a highly integrated, multi-vertical marketing organization.

While this role has direct ownership of ECP strategy and execution, its impact extends beyond a single vertical. This leader acts as both an advocate for the ECP vertical and a steward of the broader brand ecosystem, ensuring insights, priorities, and messaging are consistently shared and aligned with Consumer Marketing and Peer-to-Peer Marketing partners.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Execution & Creative Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end marketing execution for the ECP vertical, balancing strategic rigor with speed.
  • Set clear strategic direction for creative development and maintain a high bar for clarity, relevance, and consistency.
  • Oversee major campaigns, sales enablement initiatives, and conference strategy as critical brand and commercial moments.
  • Partner closely with the Agency of Record to deliver impactful, insight-led work.

Enterprise & Cross-Vertical Partnership

  • Act as both an advocate for the ECP vertical and a steward of the broader brand ecosystem, ensuring ECP strategies and insights inform and strengthen Consumer and Peer-to-Peer Marketing.
  • Operate with an enterprise-first mindset within a three-vertical marketing structure.
  • Proactively communicate priorities, messaging shifts, performance learnings, and timelines to partner teams.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships across Sales, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, Analytics, and Commercial Operations.
  • Influence without authority by grounding recommendations in insight, strategy, and customer need.

Brand & Segmentation Strategy

  • Own and evolve the brand strategy for the Eye Care Professional audience, grounded in deep customer understanding and insight.
  • Lead segmentation strategy, clearly defining and prioritizing ECP customer segments to drive relevance across messaging, campaigns, conferences, and experiences.
  • Translate business objectives and insights into clear, actionable strategies that guide execution across channels and touchpoints.
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to Sales leadership and enterprise stakeholders.

Budget Ownership & Investment Stewardship

  • Own and manage the ECP marketing budget across all major areas, including Agency of Record spend, conference and event investment, staffing resources, and program execution.
  • Ensure proactive planning, tracking, and optimization of spend to deliver strong return on investment.
  • Make disciplined trade-offs across priorities while maintaining flexibility in a changing environment.
  • Partner with Finance and cross-functional leaders to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment to business objectives.

Medical, Regulatory & Legal Partnership (PRC Leadership)

  • Support the continuous evolution and emboldening of ECP messaging through strong partnership with Medical, Regulatory, and Legal teams.
  • Attend and actively participate in PRC (Promotional Review Committee) meetings to advocate for strategic intent, customer relevance, and brand clarity.
  • Guide and support team members through the PRC process, helping navigate feedback, resolve challenges, and move work forward efficiently.
  • Balance compliance requirements with the need for impactful, differentiated, and on-strategy messaging.

Team Leadership, Culture & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of experienced marketers.
  • Foster a culture of growth, collaboration, accountability, and psychological safety.
  • Provide clear direction, strong prioritization, and ongoing feedback to support performance and development.
  • Model inclusive, empathetic leadership and a commitment to teamwork during periods of change.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, with leadership at the Director level or equivalent.
  • Strong experience in brand strategy, segmentation, and customer-centric marketing.
  • Experience marketing to professional audiences (healthcare, B2B, or other specialized professional segments preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and make disciplined investment decisions.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience leading agency partners and overseeing creative development.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Pay Information:

Base salary for this role will consider multiple factors, including but not limited to, candidate qualifications, relevant expertise, specialized skills, and industry experience in complement-targeted therapies. The targeted base salary range for this position is $200,000-$300,000. This range represents the base salary only and reflects Apellis' commitment to competitive compensation within the biopharmaceutical industry. The final salary offered may vary based on individual qualifications, business needs, and current market conditions.
