The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry, a leader in advancing oral

healthcare, is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Business Support Specialist II to manage purchasing and financial activities for the School of Dentistry.

Job Description

This position plays a key role in the School of Dentistry Business Office and reports directly to the Senior Finance and Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in purchasing and financial operations, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare and academic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing and Procurement

  • Set up and manage large dollar and blanket POs and associated tasks (invoice processing, PO maintenance/increases, sole source justifications, etc...).
  • Order, pay and reconcile small dollar purchases using School credit card.
  • Place e-procurement supply orders through Show Me Shop.
  • Process Non-PO voucher payments.
  • Manage new supplier setup and existing supplier updates.
  • Manage payments with special handling requirements (hold checks, enclosures, etc...).

Finance and Administrative Support

  • Log and endorse incoming checks according to established internal controls.
  • Provide travel reimbursement support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assist faculty and staff with supply needs for meetings.
  • Reconcile payroll and ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Reconcile dental clinic deposits.
  • Educate staff on policies and procedures.
  • Provide backup coverage for team members as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience in accounts payable or accounting.
  • Experience working in a university setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Access.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft financial systems.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $23.00 - $26.50 per hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Missouri provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your bottom line.
