Department Summary

Facilities Management has a mission to make the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth a place where the facilities and grounds are aesthetically pleasing, clean, well maintained, and energy-efficient. Position Overview

The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Custodial Foreperson to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Manage, train, and develop all Senior Custodians. Oversee daily sign in and nightly shift assignments. Distribute keys and maintain logs. Train and maintain use of PCard through the Concur Management System. Assist Manager with the development and maintenance of individual work schedules according to APPA standards. Supervise Senior Floor Technician through the floor care program. Distribute work order assignments. Ensure staff compliance with UNTHSC policies and regulations. Oversee building inspections and audit forms. Oversee distribution of custodial supplies. Generate and distribute department documents. Create special events, detailing and seasonal cleaning plans. Conduct weekly team meetings with assistants and team leaders. Assist manager with inventory, receiving, organizing, maintaining and distributing all custodial supplies and equipment. Assist manager with hiring and firing process of night shift employees. Transport self and/or others in state vehicle during performance of duties. Contribute to a safe environment by participating in all drills and training and being prepared to take action should a health or safety emergency occur. Work well with others in a professional, respectful manner and promote teamwork. Except when notified of leaving town, must be oncall and be able to be contacted in case of emergency by home phone, and/or cell phone. And other duties as assigned by the Manager, Custodial Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a a large team and stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills. including familiarity with MS Office or similar software.
  • Strong leadership and teambuilding skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • 5 years supervisory experience.


Job Duties



  • Manage, train, develop Senior Custodians through all night shift duties.
  • Hiring and Onboarding. Oversee the recruitment, selection, and hiring process for night shift custodial staff. Coordinate the onboarding and training of new custodial employees, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
  • Inventory Management. Manage custodial supplies and equipment inventory, including ordering, receiving, organizing, and maintaining stock levels. Develop and implement efficient inventory control procedures to reduce waste and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Supervision: Act as the supervisor in the absence of the Manager, Custodial Services, providing leadership and guidance to the custodial team. Assist in resolving any operational issues, conflicts, or emergencies as they arise.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Generate and distribute department documents, such as work schedules, reports, and safety guidelines. Hold regular departmental meetings to ensure that staff is informed about compliance and departmental procedures.
  • Quality Control and Compliance: Monitor custodial services department to ensure they meet the established quality standards and comply with health and safety regulations. Implement and enforce best practices to optimize custodial operations and improve service quality.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources efficiently, including personnel, supplies, and equipment, to meet the cleaning and maintenance needs of the campus. Develop and maintain schedules for custodial staff to ensure adequate coverage and responsiveness.

Work Schedule

3:00PM-11:30AM M-F Overtime and some nights/weekends/holidays required as needed. This is an essential worker position and irregular work hours may also be required during extreme weather conditions.
