JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Summer 2026 Internship: IT Assistant - The Fox Graduate School | Penn State University

The Fox Graduate School is looking for candidates for a part-time position as an IT Assistant to provide first-level IT desktop support and help with special projects. This summer, the intern will contribute to hands-on work across several active IT initiatives supporting the Fox Graduate School. Typical hours fall between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, with flexible scheduling around other commitments.

Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducting a physical inventory of Fox Graduate School IT equipment and organizing equipment closets and salvage items
  • Reviewing and updating documentation of scheduled tasks and their dependencies on our IT systems
  • Performing systematic usability and accessibility testing of Fox Graduate School web applications pages using scanner tools and documenting issues for developer review
  • Testing Playwright automation scripts and assisting in building scripts for specific graduate application use cases
  • Updating software and firmware on Poly videoconferencing units across Graduate School conference rooms
  • Performing daily ECRM integration log reviews to identify duplicate PSU IDs
  • Reviewing and categorizing helpdesk tickets to identify recurring issues
  • Monitoring scheduled job runs and verifying backup job completion, documenting any failures for developer review
  • Providing first-level end-user support for diagnosing Windows operating system issues and ensuring proper operation of software on end-user workstations

Excellent customer service skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills are essential. A candidate for this position will be able to balance tasks and priorities and communicate technical issues to all levels of users. This position will also have opportunities to shadow team members, attend Fox Graduate School meetings, and learn basic SQL queries for data validation.
