Job Description

The Electronics, Optics and Systems Division (EOSD) is searching for a Student Assistant to support GTRI's Deputy Director for Research for Summer 2026. As a Student Assistant supporting GTRI's Deputy Director for Research in Atlanta, GA, your roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic Planning Support



  • Assist in drafting sections of strategic plans, action plans, and implementation roadmaps
  • Help develop goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for research initiatives
  • Update strategic planning documents and track revisions
  • Create visual representations of strategic frameworks (timelines, logic models, dashboards)


Data Management & Tracking



  • Maintain databases and tracking systems for strategic initiatives and milestones
  • Monitor progress toward goals and flag items needing attention
  • Organize and analyze program data (participation rates, demographic information, outcomes)
  • Create and update dashboards or scorecards to visualize progress


Stakeholder Engagement & Communication



  • Assist in preparing materials for stakeholder meetings and presentations
  • Draft internal communications (emails, newsletters, updates) about strategic initiatives
  • Help coordinate focus groups, listening sessions, or town halls
  • Support outreach efforts to GTRI divisions and units


Meeting & Project Coordination



  • Schedule meetings and manage calendars for strategy-related activities
  • Prepare meeting agendas, briefing materials, and background documents
  • Take meeting notes and document action items
  • Follow up on deliverables and deadlines


Documentation & Knowledge Management



  • Organize and maintain shared drives and filing systems for strategic documents
  • Create templates and standard operating procedures for recurring processes
  • Archive program materials and maintain institutional memory
  • Develop resource libraries on DEI topics and organizational strategy


Program Support



  • Assist with implementation of specific strategic initiatives as assigned
  • Support event planning and logistics for programs aligned with strategic goals
  • Help evaluate program effectiveness and document lessons learned
  • Contribute to grant proposals or funding applications related to strategic priorities


General Administrative Support



  • Provide general office support as needed to advance GTRIs strategic work
  • Collaborate with other student assistants and staff on cross-functional projects
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned to support GTRIs mission and strategic objectives



Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant



  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Systems Engineering or Related Fields
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  • 3.0 or higher GPA


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Understanding of Strategic Planning Methodologies
  • Understanding of Project Management Principles
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas


Hours per Week

10-20 hours per week


U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.


Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
