Job description

Candidates must be local to the Washington, DC area (Role is hybrid 2-3 days in downtown Washington, DC).

About us:

We are a rapidly growing, venture-backed SaaS organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Our platform is transforming the way transportation and infrastructure systems-such as roadways, rail networks, transit systems, and pedestrian environments-are managed and optimized.

Our technology solutions are designed to:

  • Improve roadway safety and reduce traffic-related incidents
  • Enhance accessibility for pedestrians and multimodal travel
  • Enable system operators to improve efficiency while reducing operational cost

You will collaborate with a highly skilled team of engineers and data scientists leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, to build advanced solutions for a diverse and expanding client base across the United States, with plans for global growth.

Role Overview:

As an AI Integration Lead, you will play a critical role in embedding AI capabilities into our product ecosystem. This position requires bridging domain expertise in transportation or infrastructure with applied AI solutions.

You will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Data, and Research teams to develop scalable processes, improve data quality, and drive product innovation. The role emphasizes hands-on experimentation, evaluation of third-party AI tools, and translating technical insights into product direction.

We are looking for someone who is resourceful, forward-thinking, and motivated to improve systems and workflows. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential to succeed in this role within a fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter bridge between infrastructure/transportation domain knowledge and AI capabilities, ensuring outputs align with real-world standards
  • Partner with research teams to refine prompting strategies, model capabilities, and domain-specific fine-tuning approaches
  • Guide development and implementation of techniques to improve large language model (LLM) performance, including tool use and advanced prompting
  • Collaborate with data teams to identify and utilize datasets for pre-training, reinforcement learning (RLHF), in-context learning (ICL), and related applications
  • Lead initiatives in computer vision and image recognition for infrastructure asset analysis, including model selection, implementation, and validation
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of domain-adapted AI models specific to transportation and infrastructure use cases
  • Assess and recommend third-party AI tools, APIs, and models, weighing build-vs-buy decisions in partnership with engineering teams
  • Oversee AI-driven quality assurance and quality control processes, continuously improving data accuracy and integrity through iterative feedback loops

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience (including relevant project work)
  • 3+ years of experience focused on AI, preferably within a product-driven environment
  • Strong foundation in computer science principles, including algorithms and optimization
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to handle data storage and retrieval securely
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend systems, with the ability to prototype and evaluate integrations
  • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS), including services such as S3 and serverless functions
  • Exposure to computer vision or image recognition technologies (hands-on or evaluative)
  • Working knowledge of transportation systems, civil infrastructure, or geospatial data sufficient to assess AI outputs and collaborate with domain experts
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to cross-functional teams

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision)
  • Generous paid time off
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Commuter benefits
  • Office amenities including fitness facilities and stocked refreshments
  • Significant growth opportunities within a high-growth, venture-backed environment
