Project Manager - Explosion Protection

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Project Manager - Explosion Protection position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

Directs day-to-day construction project management planning and execution processes to meet project design requirements, schedules, and organizational financial objectives. Provides order preparation, progress reporting, and documentation, and installation coordination. Work includes making frequent trips to project sites to field verify site conditions, attending construction meetings and providing technical assistance. Provides project leadership from conception through product commissioning. Performs all aspects of project management from contract review and acceptance through system design coordination, implementation and verification. Guides the technical aspects of work done in relation to system installation. Requires independent interpretation of requirements and discussion of problems with various employees and customers.

Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Manages governance of projects by establishing standards, processes, and tools for effective project management throughout the project lifecycle.
  2. Uses comprehensive knowledge of construction processes and operations to set project productivity and quality targets. Monitors all project milestones, changes, and technical status reports.
  3. Manages strategic client and contractor relationships and establishes clear lines of communication.
  4. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions.
  5. Analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses or problems and propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects.
  6. Monitors activities at construction sites; works to ensure construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to.
  7. Inspects construction site regularly and works with contractors to schedule deliveries.
  8. Works independently and collaboratively, contributing to moderately complex aspects of a project as needed and may take direction on more advanced projects at the direction of the senior project manager.
  9. Supervises and coordinates activities for the EP Systems Installations Department.
  10. Assigns resources, including in house and subcontractor personnel, accordingly.
  11. Takes responsibility for schedules and sequences project elements.
  12. Coordinates and monitors sub-contractor performance, progress and quality.
  13. Prioritizes activities when there is a conflict in resources required.
  14. Reviews project's contracts and design to determine time frame, labor requirements, equipment orders and procedures for accomplishing project completion.
  15. Also establishes work plan for each portion of the project.
  16. Directs and coordinates activities of project to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  17. Reviews contract documents establishing adequate assessment, definition, and capacity to meet contractual requirements.
  18. Systematically analyzes the contract documents, design criteria and equipment necessary to meet contractual requirements.
  19. Performs a site survey with engineering to field verify site conditions, installation requirements and special tool requirements prior to design completion.
  20. Attends job site meetings and maintains communication with the customer on a timely basis to inform them of the order status.
  21. Provides project schedule, status reports, milestones and labor forecasts to operations.
  22. Resolves issues with customers such as activity responsibility, project scheduling, workmanship, contract compliance, requested design changes or additions, etc.
  23. Coordinates commissioning and certification tests with the ES Install Technicians, customer, local authority, etc.
  24. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars and workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.
  25. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.

Work Environment:

Work will be performed in an office environment, contractor shops, and customer site locations, which can be office to industrial. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit, and use hands. Must be able to lift more than 75 pounds without the aid of equipment, climb ladders, and work in difficult situations such as elevated heights, off of man lifts, scaffolding, tight spaces, and ever changing environments. Must be able to travel for consecutive days.

Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelors degree in project management in electrical, mechanical or engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years or more of post degree experience in related field with demonstrated successful project oversight stills. Experience or education in the fields of fire protection, safety management, or other related special hazard protection. Basic understanding of NFPA standard and other related code restrictions. Ability to travel - approximately 20% both domestically and internationally and expected to travel on short notice as needed.



PREFERRED: Knowledge of CAD, Windows, Word and Excel. NICET Level 3 Certification. Preferred manufacturing or related industry experience.



Compensation: The pay range for this position is $74,614 to $93,267 a year. May increase depending on the level of experience of the candidate.
