Assistant Internal Auditor/ Budget Specialist

*** Full- Time 35 Hours Per Week 8:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M. Monday- Friday, Pay Range: $50,000-$54,000 (Depending on Experience) ***

Position Summary: Perform audits of the Western Division (WST) Corps financial and information systems assessing compliance with applicable standards and guidelines and sufficiency of internal controls, while assisting with Corps fiscal and revised budgets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for assisting the Divisional Internal Auditor/Budget Specialist and leadership with WST Corps internal audits.
  • Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements and The Salvation Army (TSA) Finance Minutes, policies and practices.
  • Assist in preparing the annual audit schedules for WST Division Corps.
  • As directed, examines and analyzes accounting records to determine the financial status of The Salvation Army Corps.
  • Drafts and presents reports of findings and analysis; identifies and recommends revisions and improvements to accounting practices and procedures.
  • Prepares reports for management concerning the scope of the audit, the financial conditions found and needed improvements.
  • Update budget templates for fiscal and revised budgets.
  • Assist with budget oversight and recommendations for WST Corps with budgets less than $1.5 million dollars.
  • Audits the company's information systems, assessing compliance with data security and storage requirements.
  • Reviews internal controls, policies, and procedures for effectiveness.
  • Report to management the scope, financial condition and needed improvements of audits.
  • This position will be required to travel with overnight stays throughout the states of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, as directed or required to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Driving is an essential function of the position.
  • All other duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience: Business or Accounting associates degree preferred, with five years of related accounting/auditing experience.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Be competent to analyze facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems and transactions and determine what actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practice.


  • Strong personal communications skills to include verbal, written and presentation.
  • Excellent Microsoft software skills, and the ability to access data systems via a web-based payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.



Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Working Conditions: The work environment is an office environment, with low to moderate noise, and may include varying temperatures that may be encountered in the facility, public venues and outside.
