Salary range:
The university academic base salaries as to rank and step can be found here: UC salary scales. However, for this position the total negotiated salary uses AAMC salary benchmarks for Anatomic Pathology ranging from $260,000 - $415,000. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The academic appointment may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X (senate) series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Incumbents in the HS series are expected to provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Incumbents in the Clinical X series are expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criterion for appointment in the Clinical X series. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate. Applicants must have fellowship training in neuropathology, hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology, and eligible for a California medical license. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication and managerial skills, a strong interest in surgical neuropathology, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research. Expertise in digital pathology and artificial intelligence for clinical and research purposes will be viewed favorably. The candidate will be mainly responsible for clinical services in neuropathology including frozen section on-call duty, service on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of junior faculty, medical students, residents, and fellows. Additional interest in general autopsy pathology or cardiothoracic pathology would be beneficial. This position will serve the laboratory needs of UCI Health, the only academic medical center in Orange County, which includes: the 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus; and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.
