DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this County Social Services Aide 2 position, you will be perform entry level social service duties as part of our Parent Education Program. Work involves helping parents, children, and families build essential skills and access needed resources. With us, you will be part of a team that inspires hope, builds resilience, and provides the nurturing environment and resources that children and their families need to succeed. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Parent Education: Provide instruction and support to parents through center-based and in-home education services
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other social service agencies, hospitals, mental health facilities, police, courts, schools, and other community resources to ensure consistent support for families
  • Group Activity Support: Facilitate group activities that help parents, adolescents, and children build positive skills and experiences from budgeting and discipline to crafts and communication
  • Record Keeping: Maintain clear case records that track client progress and care plan updates
  • Client Assistance: Provide transportation, manage crisis situations, help refer parents to appropriate community resources, and supervise interactions between parents and children


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. May require evening, weekend, or on-call work depending on agency requirements.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a County Social Services Aide 1; or
  • Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and two years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which included one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or
  • An associate's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
