*Mortgage Default Specialist* *Job Type:* Full-Time *Position Overview* We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Mortgage Default Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will evaluate borrower assistance options, manage loss mitigation workflows, and ensure compliance with investor and insurer guidelines. You'll play a critical role in helping homeowners navigate financial hardship while supporting portfolio performance and regulatory adherence.
*Key Responsibilities* * Develop and maintain a strong understanding of mortgage investor and insurer guidelines, including agency and government-backed loan programs. * Review and evaluate homeowner assistance requests, including loan modifications, repayment plans, forbearance options, and liquidation alternatives. * Analyze borrower financials and supporting documentation to determine appropriate workout solutions. * Prepare and submit workout recommendations for approval, ensuring completeness and compliance with required standards. * Make independent or guided decisions on loan files in accordance with internal criteria and investor/insurer rules. * Track and manage active loss mitigation plans, ensuring payment activity and key milestones are accurately updated in servicing systems. * Respond to internal and external inquiries, messages, and escalations within established service level agreements (SLAs). * Communicate with borrowers, authorized third parties, attorneys, and real estate professionals to provide status updates and next steps. * Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of loan file activity. *Required Qualifications* * 2+ years of experience in mortgage servicing, loan processing, default servicing, or related lending operations * 1+ year of experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) * Experience utilizing guideline research tools (e.g., AllRegs or equivalent) * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make sound decisions * Excellent written and verbal communication skills *Preferred Qualifications* * 1+ year of experience in foreclosure, bankruptcy, loss mitigation, or default-related functions * Familiarity with automated workout and decisioning tools used by government agencies (FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, VA) * Experience working with government or investor systems (e.g., FHA Connection, VA systems, court or claims portals) * Hands-on experience with Sagent or similar mortgage servicing platforms *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Brighton, MN. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.27/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
