The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues. Group W provides wargaming, warfare modeling and simulation, software development, data analytics, and operations research/system analysis support to the national security mission. As a leader in the fields of campaign, mission, and wargaming analysis we embrace the cycle of research paradigm, continually seeking to improve the multi-method application of tools, data, methods, and techniques to generate credible and resilient insights to inform decisions on the Department's most challenging issues spanning CONOPs, acquisitions, force structures, tactics, and strategies. Group W has an immediate need for a Software Developer to work onsite with the team at our Dumfries, VA location. Responsibilities The Software Developer will apply programming and software engineering expertise to architect, develop, and enhance defense analytic and workflow tools. Working as part of a hybrid team of software developers and requirements analysts, the developer will build and maintain web-based applications within existing frameworks, integrate data mappings and exchanges between DoD tools, and enhance existing modeling and simulation applications. The role also includes modifying software to fix errors, improve performance, adapt to new hardware, and upgrade interfaces. Success in this position requires knowledge of a range of programming languages and web-based technologies, as well as a commitment to staying current with emerging industry trends and technologies that can improve defense software development and analytic capabilities.
