The Teacher Assistant (TIS) is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety and well-being; providing instruction and facilitation to groups and individual children under the direction of the Teacher; and collaborating with the Teacher to assess the strengths and needs of children and design appropriate classroom activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist teacher in any way possible, which may include, but is not necessarily limited to:
  • a. Plan activities for assigned groups or individual children.
  • b. Implement the daily schedule as assigned.
  • c. Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's artwork, and other hangings.
  • d. Serve breakfast, lunches, and snacks.
  • e. Help with materials and room clean-up and organization.
  • Provide nurturing and supportive environment for children, using positive behavior interventions and preventative strategies to manage classroom behavior.
  • Complete required number of training hours each year by attending in-house in-services and local workshops and trainings.
  • Assume temporary responsibilities of the teacher in her/his absence.
  • Report any special needs or problems of individual children to the classroom teacher.
  • Work with children who have special health care needs, supporting the teacher
  • Report any cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Director or make a direct call to DCYF(1-800-RICHILD).
  • Assistants must be able to follow 4 month rotating work schedule of 8.5 hours within the times the center is open (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency required.
  • Some college credit in the fields of early childhood, special education, or psychology preferred.
  • At least 1-year supervised experience working with children with special needs, including social/emotional disorders and/or developmental disabilities.in a typical childcare program.

Pay Range:

$18.00-$25.82
