Job Purpose

The purpose of Corporate Affairs is to protect, promote and enhance the company's reputation. It is to build, and help others build, the reputation that National Grid needs to succeed in the short and long term. Successful candidates will build and expand key relationships within their region and establish themselves as a trusted partner to support National Grid, our customers, our employees, and our partners.

This role is critically important within National Grid. The focus of the role is External Affairs in Brooklyn, and sits within the larger citywide team with peer positions on Staten Island and in Queens. The individual will be the primary external face of the company within the borough of Brooklyn, while supporting community engagement, local government/municipal relations, local community investment, and mitigating reputational risk among elected officials and key community stakeholders. This individual will support the advancement of the Company's communications strategy, collaborate with the economic development team and help to drive National Grid's future operations and policy priorities.

Responsibilities include serving as the primary liaison between National Grid and the communities we serve. Strategically drive community relations activities in support of business goals. Efficient deployment of Company resources to achieve strategic goals, collaborating with other groups internally to deliver first class customer service.

Represent National Grid on organizational boards that strategically enhance relationships, advance regional economic development initiatives and/or are positioned to advocate in partnership with National Grid on key issues tied to energy delivery (chambers of commerce, business organizations, etc.) and inform the company's local community investment plans.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and manage a network of working-level contacts in various stakeholder teams to help inform the stakeholder engagement agenda through several projects.
  • Drive broad coordination among major projects by continuing to update, promote and embed the white paper that articulates an overall strategy and informs decision making for individual projects and priorities in specific regions.
  • Advise on and monitor stakeholder engagement campaigns for major projects to ensure alignment.
  • Support the planning, preparation, and implementation of stakeholder maps, message frameworks, meeting calendar and agendas, talking points and strategic communication campaigns to disseminate best practice and knowledge.
  • Build transparency by maintaining major projects tracker and bringing executive sponsors, project managers and other internal stakeholders together for regular meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with substantial experience in business, marketing, public administration, government affairs, public and or community relations.
  • Demonstrated success in external affairs and/or lobbying activity.
  • Experience interacting with senior executives and policy makers internally and externally.
  • Substantive experience in collaboration to build strong partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Giving programs and their governance.
  • Ability to work within a dynamic team to deliver on key company priorities
  • Must possess strong management skills, excellent verbal, digital, written and narrative communications skills along with the ability to write reports and develop presentations for senior management as required.
  • Experience in crisis or external emergency management.

Salary

$165k - $190k a year
