Position Summary
The Labor Relations Specialist provides administrative and operational support to the Labor Relations Manager in managing union workforce matters within a nuclear services environment. This role supports compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), assists with grievance administration, maintains labor-related records, and coordinates communication between field operations, craft labor, and union representatives. The position is non-exempt and requires a high degree of organization, confidentiality, and attention to detail in a highly regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities
Labor Relations Support
- Assist in the administration and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements across multiple unions and projects
- Support the grievance process by tracking, documenting, and coordinating responses and timelines
- Prepare materials and documentation for labor meetings, investigations, and arbitration hearings
- Maintain accurate records of labor activity, including grievances, disciplinary actions, and union correspondence
Field & Operations Coordination
- Act as a point of contact for field supervisors and project teams on routine labor relations questions
- Coordinate workforce onboarding requirements in alignment with union agreements (referrals, dispatch, etc.)
- Support workforce mobilization and demobilization efforts for outage and project work
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to labor laws, CBAs, and company policies, particularly within nuclear regulatory environments
- Track and report labor metrics such as grievances, workforce trends, and union utilization
- Maintain documentation in accordance with audit and regulatory requirements
Employee & Union Interaction
- Assist in responding to employee inquiries related to union agreements, pay provisions, and working conditions
- Coordinate logistics for labor meetings, including scheduling with union representatives
- Support positive labor-management relationships through timely and professional communication
Administrative Support
- Maintain organized labor relations files and databases
- Union reporting and payments
- Draft routine correspondence, reports, and summaries for leadership
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and internal reporting needs
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 2-5 years of experience in labor relations, HR, or a related field (construction, energy, or nuclear industry preferred)
- Experience working with union environments and collective bargaining agreements strongly preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic understanding of labor laws and union agreements
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-based environment
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and HRIS systems
Work Environment & Requirements
- May require periodic travel to project sites, including nuclear facilities
- Ability to support extended hours during outages or peak project periods
