Job Summary
We are seeking a driven and experienced manufacturing professional to join our team as a Quality & EHS Manager at our equipment manufacturing facility in Ayer, MA. This is an on-site role in a fast-paced environment, providing daily operational support while driving continuous improvement in quality and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) performance. This role holds direct responsibility for both incoming and internal quality of manufactured and purchased equipment and components. In addition, the position oversees all site EHS programs, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will lead initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, product quality, and overall business performance while fostering a strong safety-first culture.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Champion the Quality Management System (QMS) and EHS systems, driving continuous improvement across operations
- Monitor, measure, and report quality data in alignment with the Performance Management System (PMS)
- Develop and maintain databases, process maps, and performance metrics to support quality processes
- Analyze quality trends and identify root causes, lead corrective and preventive actions
- Lead improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma and other methodologies
- Establish and track key metrics such as process capability, control charts, and quality indicators
- Develop, implement, and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for process control, testing, and inspection
- Provide systematic analysis to resolve complex production and quality issues
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Leadership
- Lead all site Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local/state regulations
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve site-specific safety and environmental policies, procedures, and programs
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety audits across manufacturing operations
- Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate workplace risks
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation for injuries, near misses, environmental releases, and unsafe conditions
- Maintain OSHA logs (e.g., OSHA 300/300A/301) and ensure timely, accurate regulatory reporting
- Prepare and submit environmental reports as required (e.g., hazardous waste, air emissions, stormwater, Tier II, TRI reporting where applicable)
- Track and report EHS performance metrics (TRIR, DART, near-miss rates, audit findings) to site leadership and corporate stakeholders
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to provide visibility into EHS trends, risks, and compliance status
- Ensure timely escalation and communication of significant incidents and regulatory matters
- Support internal and external audits, including regulatory inspections, and ensure closure of findings
Safety Programs & Compliance
- Develop and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs, including PPE, lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space entry, electrical safety, and hazard communication
- Ensure proper selection, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure equipment safety, machine guarding, and safe work practices
- Oversee contractor safety programs and ensure compliance with site requirements
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and behavioral safety observations
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills for fire, chemical spills, and medical emergencies
- Manage environmental compliance programs, including waste handling, hazardous materials storage, air permitting, spill prevention, and pollution control
- Drive a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, safety committees, and continuous awareness initiatives
- Ensure all employees are properly trained and certified for required safety procedures and equipment operation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment (5S principles)
Operations & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations, sourcing, and plant leadership to achieve production and quality goals
- Collaborate with North American Quality & EHS leaders to share best practices and replicate successful programs
- Act as liaison with suppliers and R&D for raw material qualification and new product introduction
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve quality issues and ensure effective corrective actions
- Support sales and marketing teams with technical expertise as needed
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quality Technicians (2 direct reports)
- Communicate expectations, coach performance, and track KPIs
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development
- Recruit, train, and evaluate team members
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering or a related technical field
- Minimum 3+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with quality systems, including:
- Supplier Quality Management
- Corrective Action & Root Cause Analysis
- FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Demonstrated experience leading Lean Six Sigma projects (Green Belt required; Black Belt preferred)
- Strong knowledge of EHS systems, OSHA/EPA regulations, and environmental reporting requirements
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with data-driven decision-making
- Ability to manage multiple projects with strong organizational and follow-through skills
- Proven leadership and team facilitation abilities
- Experience with process mapping and continuous improvement tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio/Project (or equivalent), and ERP systems (SAP/MRP)
- Experience with Minitab or similar statistical analysis tools preferred
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated core competencies: ownership mindset, customer focus, continuous improvement attitude, and adaptability

- Strong presentation and facilitation skills
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $102,600-$176,755
The range disclosed complies with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Offers within this range will be determined by considering relevant factors including education, experience, and internal alignment. This position may also be eligible for annual performance bonuses and other incentive programs.
