Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College seeks applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of American Sign Language for the 2026 -2027 academic year. This is a one-year, in-person, non-tenure-eligible position with the potential for a second-year renewal, contingent upon budget and satisfactory performance. The start date is August 15, 2026.


The Visiting Assistant Professor of ASL will be expected to teach four 3-credit sections of ASL courses each semester. The retention and promotion criteria for Visiting faculty emphasize teaching excellence, leadership in instructional innovation, and service. Research productivity is not expected or evaluated but is permitted.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and teach an average of 12 contact hours per semester in the Fall and Spring semesters. The primary content area for this position is American Sign Language.
  • Hold a minimum of four (4) office hours per week.
  • Participate in service to the department, including but not limited to departmental committees and attendance at department and UCBA faculty meetings.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to pedagogy and/or language teaching, including, but not limited to, attending conferences.

Minimum Requirements

The following must be met prior to the effective date of appointment:




  • Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language or a closely related field. Master's degree in American Sign Language preferred.
  • Near-native proficiency in American Sign Language.
  • One (1) academic year of college-level teaching experience in American Sign Language.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Information: $53,000 - $56,000
