Position Summary

The Engineering Manager position is responsible for executing activities relating to Electromechanical Systems (EMS) product design, development, and sustainment. The hardware development team executes mechanical and electronic hardware design. This position reports to the EMS Engineering Manager.

The Engineering Manager ensures that mechanical and electronic hardware development is effectively coordinated among all functional departments (Systems, Mechanical, Electronic Hardware, Software, and Quality Engineering). The Engineering Manager provides leadership and administrative oversight to team members, including the improvement of NPI and certification processes. EMS product designs utilize the principles of Simple by Design and Zero Defects to ensure products are profitably manufactured and provide a competitive advantage for Parker Lord and its customers.

This position works closely with functional managers, technical leads, Program Managers, and technical team members to provide project support in the areas of:

  • Program planning, execution, and resource allocation
  • Mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Electronic hardware design, manufacturing, and certification
  • Transition of NPI designs to production and product sustainment

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop team members in support of company objectives, individual career growth, and goal achievement

  • Coordinate mechanical and electronic hardware design activities and allocate resources in support of EMS project objectives and priorities

  • Perform the administrative functions of work planning, budget maintenance, salary/performance reviews, and capital planning

  • Drive team engagement using tools such as situational leadership and the established High Performance Team purpose and goals.

  • Direct the preparation of design concepts to meet product requirements with focus on safety, engagement, customer experience, profitable growth, and financial performance in alignment with the Win Strategy.

  • Direct the analysis of mechanical parts and assemblies (e.g., static, dynamic, finite element methods)

  • Direct the analysis of circuits and electrical assemblies (e.g., simulation, stability, electrical stress and derating, reliability)

  • Ensure team applies engineering best practices considering manufacturing and quality control

  • Keep abreast of competitive product lines and market developments

  • Champion the utilization and maintenance of NPI product development processes

  • Support business-related travel approximately 10% of the year.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace)

  • 8+ years of experience working in an engineering team setting, including at least 6 years of leadership experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment, including good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident

Preferred:

  • Graduate Degree (e.g., MS, MEng, MBA, PhD) in related field
  • Proficiency leading design activities to support product entry to service
  • Experience with mechanical design tools such as Autodesk Inventor or ANSYS
  • Experience with circuit design tools such as OrCAD, SPICE simulation tools, or Mathcad
  • Experience managing requirements using DOORS or DOORS Next Gen (DNG)
  • Familiarity with electronic hardware certification requirements such as DO-254 and/or IEC 61508
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 26262 or ARP4761
  • Experience with electromechanical system design and development
