Position Overview
The Plant Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating mechanical equipment, production machinery, and electronic controls involved in the processing and handling of sand, gravel, rock, and other materials. This position supports the production of aggregate and asphalted materials by maintaining proper equipment functionality, monitoring production flows, and assisting with routine maintenance and housekeeping tasks. Attention to safety, equipment performance, and operational efficiency is critical to success in this role.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
* Operate conveyors, crushers, screens, batching units, and related plant equipment used in sorting, sifting, mixing, and processing aggregate materials.
* Adjust equipment settings and monitor controls to ensure consistent material quality and production rates.
* Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on plant machinery and production systems.
* Start and stop equipment as needed, monitoring conditions and communicating any abnormalities or issues to supervision.
* Complete daily production logs, and material tracking.
* Support the safe and efficient flow of materials through the plant by coordinating with mobile equipment operators and other team members.
* Responsible for completing area audits.
* Always maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
* Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company and plant safety policies, rules and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

* Basic recordkeeping skills for production logs and maintenance documentation.
Education & Experience
* High School Diploma or GED preferred.
* Prior experience operating or maintaining equipment in aggregates, mining, construction, or a related industrial environment preferred, but not required.
* Willingness to learn plant systems, safety protocols, and job-specific skills through on-the-job training.
Other Qualifications
* Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions and respond calmly to operational demands.
* Willingness to work outdoors in variable weather and physically demanding environments.
* Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel (including overnight) based on business needs.
* Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces, or around moving equipment as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment and heavy machinery. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, with frequent exposure to seasonal temperature extremes, high humidity, dry and dusty conditions, and varying weather. The role often requires working at elevated heights and navigating rough, uneven, or sloped terrain. Occasional exposure to chemicals, solvents, fumes, acids, grease, and fuels may occur. The employee may also work in confined or restricted spaces. The work environment can be loud, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
Physical Demands

* Ability to perform job task assignments 8 to 14 hours per day, 5 days a week and occasionally on weekends.
* Ability to lift 50 lbs. ground to shoulder height frequently and up to 75 lbs. ground to waist level height occasionally.
* Ability to perform tasks on rough, uneven surfaces and terrain in often wet/damp conditions.
* Ability to work and perform tasks at heights from 1 to 100 feet from the ground while utilizing a personal fall arrest harness and lanyard.
* Work on stairs, ladders, raised platforms, flat and angled surfaces at varying heights.
* Capable of speaking, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, climbing ladder and stairs, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping for periods extending to fourteen (14) hours per shift.
* Oriented to hear with ability to discriminate between sounds and maintain awareness of surroundings.
* Ability to operate equipment to include forklift, crane, aerial lift/ work platform.
* Ability to drive heavy mining and aggregate production equipment including wheel loaders, haul truck, backhoe, and skid steer loader.
* Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work outside, tolerate ambient seasonal temperature extremes, humidity, and generally dry/dusty conditions.
* Ability to work in confined and tight work areas as well as move heavy objects in tight areas.
* Oriented to see workplace hazards with ability to eliminate within reasonable means, and to avoid personal injury or property damage.
* Ability to work around chemicals, solvents, fumes, acids, grease, and fuels.
* Ability to hear and discriminate between sounds to be aware of surroundings.
* Ability to use/wear personal protective equipment, respirators, hearing protection, gloves, protective eyewear, hardhats, protective clothing, and industrial footwear.
