Department Overview

The System Performance, Reliability and Resiliency Strategy team within the overall Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the resources necessary to successfully execute PG&E's Electric Reliability Strategy and initiatives. This team of forward-thinking individuals is tasked with deploying the technology and infrastructure to achieve the company's reliability goals. The team is responsible for implementing programs required to modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations.

Position Summary

Electric Distribution Planning Leadership is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the implementation of PG&E's distribution capacity and reliability strategies, programs, and initiatives. Incumbents oversee engineers who develop and implement PG&E's distribution planning strategy and improvement initiatives. This includes program management activities for capital work associated with substation and line capacity projects for the distribution system. The leadership works with key department personnel, senior management, engineering teams, business partners and others to successfully implement the company's investment strategies and initiatives. Incumbents are responsible for actively supporting a safe work environment.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the Bay Area of PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Bay Minimum: $163,000
Bay Maximum: $277,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the strategic development and planning of electric distribution capacity, reliability, distributed generation, and electric reliability management by providing clear leadership and direction for system design and capital program investments. Directs the overall management of scope, schedule and cost.
  • Holds team accountable for distribution planning and reliability engineering initiatives and works to remove obstacles by building relationships across the organization with stakeholders and other departments. Identifies gaps in existing processes and drives process improvement.
  • Participates in high-level planning processes and provides technical information relating to distribution capital content.
  • Leads the development of key department capacity and reliability metrics to aid in strategic goal setting and work progression.
  • Leads the development and management of department budgets, monitoring expenditures against forecasts and providing explanations or justifications for budget items and/or variances.
  • Develops short- and long-term reliability and capacity strategies for inclusion in the General Rate Case (GRC) and other regulatory reports.
  • Supports the activation and operations of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergency events (for example power outages, major storms, heat waves, earthquakes).
  • Oversees the acquisition and approval for required planning tools, ensures tools are automated and streamlined and staff is properly trained in the use of the tools. Secures support for required software maintenance and upgrade support.
  • Manages team to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering-Electrical or equivalent experience
  • Experience in electric distribution engineering, or related, 8 years
  • Experience in electric distribution planning, or related, 5 years

Desired:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering-Electrical or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering-Electrical-Power Systems or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Leadership experience, 3 years
  • PE-Professional Engineer license
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influence, negotiation and collaboration skills.
  • Electrical Engineering knowledge with a focus in Power Systems.
  • Knowledge of transmission engineering or operations, substation engineering, transmission or distribution protection, distribution operations
  • Experience working with SAP Financials and Work Management.
  • Knowledge of bargaining unit contract obligations.
  • Construction and contract management experience.
  • Program and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering principles, codes, regulations, policies, and procedure's related to the industry and PG&E.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment.
