What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking someone to join the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) Quality Team to contribute to a vital program funded by the Office of Secure Transportation (OST). The MGT project is dedicated to delivering the next generation of state-of-the-art safe and secure transportation systems for the over-the-road shipment of United States nuclear deterrence assets. As the design agency within this initiative, our team comprises experts from various disciplines across Sandia, working collaboratively to ensure that our primary deliverable, safe and secure transportation system designs, are ready for production. Join us in this critical mission to enhance national security through innovative transportation solutions!

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers (QEs), Systems Engineers (SEs) and Software (SW) team members to ensure CM and quality requirements, processes, controls, tools and outputs are maintained throughout the MGT lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ERB meetings, note actions and provide dispositions of requests accordingly.
  • Provide expert guidance in Configuration Management (CM), Document Management (DM), and Hardware Management (HM) for the Mobile Guardian Transportation (MGT) program, ensuring adherence to quality standards and processes.
  • Lead a team to effectively meet program needs in CM, DM, and HM, fostering collaboration and communication among team members.
  • Update and maintain the Configuration Management Plan to reflect changes in processes and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Participate in audits, such as the TSSP CM Audit, to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate the Document Release process by guiding team members through the necessary steps to ensure proper documentation is released and stored in the Electronic Information Management System (EIMS).
  • Provide regular consultation to systems leads and MGT staff on best practices for folder taxonomy in SharePoint and collaborative drives, enhancing organizational efficiency.
  • Transition collaborative folders to SharePoint for finalized documents, ensuring proper storage in EIMS.
  • Support high-level program reviews by ensuring all items are released with appropriate CM practices and shared with customers through the correct systems.
  • Maintain and update the Change Control Process Plan (Engineering Review Board - ERB), implementing improvements as necessary to streamline processes for the program and customer.
  • Conduct regular reviews of the Quality Management System (QMS) with process owners to ensure compliance and accuracy, making updates as needed to align with organizational and customer requirements.
  • Document and track action items from Engineering Review Board (ERB) meetings, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of requests.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors in engineering, quality assurance or related field or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with quality management standards such as ISO 9001, demonstrating a strong understanding of compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of change control processes, change request lifecycle management, and workflow administration.
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with Configuration Management (CM) tools and enterprise systems (e.g., SharePoint, EIMS FileNet).
  • Strong grasp of quality management systems (QMS), document control, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting internal/external audits.
  • Experience with external interface tools such as ECN and ESN.
  • Excellent teaming, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills for cross-functional collaboration.

About Our Team

The Monitoring Systems & Technology (MST) Systems Assurance Department leads innovation and R&D for Center 6700, specializing in definition, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technical systems and processes. Our focus is on product development for initiatives like the Global Burst Detector (GBD) and Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT). We work closely with technical project teams, partners, and stakeholders to meet customer requirements for cost, schedule, performance, and quality. Committed to fostering innovation, we conduct evaluations that prioritize innovative approaches, integrate technical solutions into ongoing projects, and participate in risk and root cause analyses to drive improvements.

Quality management is an essential component to our work. We ensure compliance with program procedures and quality standards, document lessons learned and implement best practices for future activities. Additionally, we apply Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety (6S) principles to optimize laboratory spaces across the Center, enhancing operational efficiency. By focusing on technical excellence and R&D, the MST Systems Assurance Department is vital to advancing the Center's mission and delivering successful project and program outcomes.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
