Position Summary

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Perform all maintenance duties necessary to the efficient operation of all equipment in the plant. Repair and maintain plant equipment in accordance with blue prints and building codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Exhibit mechanical comprehension by having performed specific maintenance duties full time for a period of three years.

2. Perform all duties of a general maintenance mechanic.

3. Repair and maintenance of existing plant equipment.

4. Installation of new plant equipment.

5. Problem solving and troubleshooting plant equipment.

6. Provide assistance to production on specific equipment problems and make recommendations where necessary.

7. Technical training experience and/or training in repairs and maintenance of equipment.

8. Utilize correct safety practices while performing all duties.

9. Use proper lockout/tag out procedures.

10. Investigation and perform remedial changes to equipment exhibiting recurrent failures.

11. Demonstrate mechanical shop skills.

12. Know the function and maintenance requirements of plant equipment.

13. Advise Engineering and Maintenance Manager on potential equipment trouble and corrective actions necessary.

14. Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Continue to keep current in skills through training, classes and on the job training.

2. Arrange scheduling of equipment repairs with supervision.

3. Requisitioned needed repair parts.

4. Maintain spare parts stock organization.

5. Maintain plant equipment history log.

6. Provide repairs at lowest cost consistent with good maintenance practices.

7. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

8. Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

9. Maintain production schedules.

10. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

11. Other duties may be assigned at a later time.

  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge and use of hand tools.

  • Sound decision making skills.

  • Good math, reading and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  • Strong trouble shooting skills.

  • Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual and audio attention.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

    Skills/Competencies:

1. Basic computer skills

2. Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

3. Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks, such as reading machine dial gauges, drawings, and precision measuring instruments

4. Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.
