Sr. Accountant Position Purpose

Responsible for various accounting department functions, including financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and analysis to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with applicable regulations.

Sr. Accountant Essential Functions



  • Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
  • Ensures timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Prepares and reviews journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts
  • Analyzes financial statements and variances to identify discrepancies and support decision-making
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and adherence to internal controls and financial policies
  • Assists with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Supports internal and external audits and coordinates required documentation
  • Identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows
  • Provides guidance and support to junior accounting staff
  • Collaborates with other departments to support financial operations and initiatives
  • Consistent and reliable on-site attendance
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Sr. Accountant Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Three (3) or more years of accounting experience, preferably in a Senior Accountant or similar role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and resolve problems independently


Sr. Accountant Physical Requirements



  • Lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • The ability to drive locally and to sit for long periods
