Description

AMPI owns six Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese and processed cheese is produced. The cooperative's award-winning cheese and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and accompanying Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled cheesemakers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources



  1. Administer employment offers, pre-employment screening, new hire orientation, and onboarding to ensure a consistent experience across locations.
  2. Maintain comprehensive and confidential HR record systems for all employment-related documentation; ensure accuracy and integrity of HRIS data.
  3. Support compliance with federal and state employment regulations; assist with compliance audits of HR processes and recommend adjustments.
  4. Investigate and help resolve employee complaints in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
  5. Monitor training compliance and completion rates across locations; support learning and development initiatives for employees.
  6. Support the Corporate Affirmative Action Plan, including required training and outreach activities.
  7. Develop and analyze HR metrics and KPIs to identify trends and support corrective action.
  8. Champion employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, company events, employee surveys, and other activities that foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  9. Partner with plant HR Managers and leadership to identify engagement opportunities and address morale concerns proactively.
  10. Serve as an approachable and visible presence for employees across all locations, building trust and two-way communication between staff and leadership.
  11. Support internal communications efforts that keep employees informed, connected, and aligned with company values and goals.


Health and Safety



  1. Identify, create, and maintain employee training records for relevant occupational health and safety and DOT topics; conduct required annual regulatory training for all employees.
  2. Review plant safety committee meeting minutes, safety inspection reports, and injury/illness investigation reports; follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are completed.
  3. Monitor regulatory changes and ensure organizational compliance; act as liaison with pertinent government agencies during inquiries and inspections.
  4. Promote safety awareness through internal communications such as newsletters, 5-minute safety talks, best practices, and specific training programs; support safety committees and floor presence.
  5. Oversee management of DOT driver files, random drug screening, and DOT documentation in the company's electronic system.
  6. Manage AMPI's workers' compensation program, serving as the primary interface between the insurance carrier, medical providers, counsel, and regulatory representatives; closely monitor lost-time injuries and claims.
  7. Compile and maintain annual OSHA-required reporting and documentation; support plant safety coordinators to ensure accurate and timely report submissions.
  8. Utilize and analyze safety and health metrics, trends, and data to identify gaps and support continuous improvement in safety performance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE



  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Associates and/or bachelor's degree in HR, Business. Occupational Health and Safety or related field or a combination of education and relevant work experience required.
  • 1-5 years relevant work experience required.
  • Experience with HRIS administration preferred.
  • Maintain a valid drivers' license and must be able to travel.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
