The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Practice Operations reports to Department Administrator/COO and provides strategic and operational leadership for the department's faculty clinical practice enterprise. This role partners closely with physician leadership, the Department Administrator, Divisional Administrators, and ColumbiaDoctors operations to optimize ambulatory and outpatient practice performance across access, patient flow, staffing models, productivity, quality, and revenue cycle alignment.

The Director leads operational improvement initiatives, standardizes workflows, supports clinic growth strategies, and ensures exceptional patient experience while maintaining regulatory compliance and financial stewardship.

Responsibilities

Practice Operations Leadership

* Direct day-to-day operational oversight of departmental clinical practice sites and ambulatory service lines.

* Partner with physician leaders to develop and implement operational strategies supporting patient access, clinic growth, throughput optimization, and care team efficiency.

* Standardize clinical workflows and performance expectations across divisional and site-based clinics.

* Lead site expansions, clinic startups, space planning, and service redesign efforts.

Access, Scheduling & Patient Flow

* Optimize scheduling templates, session utilization, appointment availability, and provider panel management.

* Lead initiatives to improve patient access metrics including decreasing appointment lag for E&M and procedures and no-show rates.

* Monitor clinic flow performance and implement patient throughput improvements to enhance patient experience.

Staffing & Practice Management

* Develop and oversee staffing models aligned with clinic volumes and scope of practice.

* Manage hiring, training, performance management, and workforce planning for the clinical practice.

* Ensure appropriate deployment of advanced practice providers and clinical support staff.

Quality, Compliance & Patient Experience

* Ensure compliance with clinical regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies.

* Support implementation of safety, quality improvement, and patient experience initiatives.

* Lead audits and corrective action plans related to documentation, clinical protocols, or operational compliance.

Revenue Cycle & Financial Performance

* Partner closely with CRO to optimize clinical coding, billing workflows, charge capture, and collections.

* Monitor provider productivity (e.g., RVUs), visit volume trends, template utilization, capacity index, etc.

* Support operational cost management and clinic budget performance.

Leadership & Staff Development

* Lead clinical practice managers and operational teams across divisions or sites.

* Foster collaborative relationships with physician leaders, finance, revenue cycle, IT, nursing, and compliance partners.

* Mentor staff and promote a performance-based, patient-centered culture.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience


Preferred Qualifications



  • 5+ years of progressively responsible management experience in physician practice management or ambulatory operations.

  • Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, or related).



  • Experience working within academic medical centers or faculty practice plans.
