Job Title: Project Engineer City: New York State: NY
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Lead,
mentor, and support development of project engineering staff; participate in recruiting and onboarding efforts, deliver timely performance feedback, contribute to annual performance reviews, utilize talent development tools, and identify training opportunities aligned with project and individual development goals. - Establish
and manage project communication protocols using platforms using Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud to ensure efficient flow of information and approvals between the design team, consultants, owners, and trade partners. Lead coordination of OAC and internal meetings with clear documentation and follow-up. - Collaborate
closely with Preconstruction and Procurement teams by providing detailed engineering insight during trade package development, focusing on scope clarity, constructability challenges, and site logistics. Leverage hands-on estimating experience across trades-including painting, specialties, demolition, and finishes-to support accurate scoping and buyout strategies, particularly on complex projects like active hospital renovations and occupied office fit-outs that require phasing, infection control planning, and coordination with ongoing operations. - Conduct
constructability and quality control reviews of design and construction documents, proactively identifying gaps, coordination conflicts, or code compliance issues. Collaborate with the design team to resolve discrepancies while contributing to logistics planning, value engineering studies, and material or method recommendations-drawing on practical field experience in engineering and superintending to ensure buildable, cost-effective solutions. - Assist
in development and review of trade partner Scope of Work (SOW) documents, ensuring clarity and completeness for bidding and contracting, incorporating lessons learned from field coordination and estimating roles. - Leverage
BuildingConnected for estimating and budgeting efforts by soliciting trade partner bids, performing detailed bid leveling, and maintaining bid coverage across multiple packages to support cost certainty and informed procurement decisions. - Create
and maintain procurement schedules for trade partners, major equipment, and long-lead materials in coordination with the project schedule using tools including Microsoft Excel, Touchplan and P6, ensuring alignment with construction milestones. - Prepare
and track detailed project status updates and financial reports, collaborating with the project controls team to monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections, utilizing knowledge from estimating and cost tracking experience. - Schedule,
facilitate, and document project meetings including internal coordination, subcontractor meetings, and Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) sessions, ensuring all action items are recorded and addressed using Procore. - Utilize
SAP for comprehensive change order management, including tracking of trade partner proposals, internal cost exposure, owner-directed changes, and contract revisions. Facilitate owner negotiations by clearly presenting scope changes, supporting cost breakdowns, and providing backup documentation to justify changes. Ensure accurate documentation and timely approvals throughout the lifecycle of the project by maintaining detailed change order logs, collaborating with internal teams and owners for thorough reviews, and aligning all changes with project budget forecasts and contractual requirements. - Conduct
data analysis and project cost reporting using Microsoft Excel to track estimate-to-actual trends, analyze buyout savings, monitor trade partner productivity, and prepare visual dashboards that support project reviews and executive reporting. - Lead
project close-out efforts, including punch list coordination, turnover documentation, O&M manual compilation, warranty submissions, trade close-out tracking, and archival of records for future reference using Procore.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and 3 years of experience in job offered or 3 years of experience in the Related Occupation. RELATED OCCUPATION: Assistant Estimator or any other job title performing the following job duties:
- Assisting
with project document management by reviewing drawings, specifications, reports, and stakeholder inputs; maintaining organized records and distributing information to relevant parties. - Performing
quantity take-offs and preliminary assessments from architectural plans and field conditions to support estimating, progress tracking, and feasibility studies. - Supporting
preparation of cost estimates and budgets by analyzing scope requirements, evaluating proposals, and conducting variance analyses to inform project decisions. - Drafting
and processing project communications including RFIs, clarifications, assumptions, and narratives to resolve design or scope ambiguities and mitigate risk. - Serving
as a liaison with stakeholders (trade partners, architects, engineers, consultants, clients, and government bodies) to coordinate technical inputs, scope clarifications, and project deliverables. - Evaluating
trade partner or consultant proposals for scope, compliance, and cost, and documenting findings for project leads or client review. - Supporting
change management and scope alignment by reviewing field progress, identifying scope gaps or overlaps, and assisting with change order preparation and tracking. - Participating
in value management efforts by analyzing design alternatives, constructability issues, and site or regulatory constraints to recommend cost-efficient and effective solutions. - Contributing
to bid and proposal development by compiling technical documentation, organizing supporting data, and coordinating with project teams to meet submission requirements. - Assisting
in project planning and scheduling efforts by supporting site logistics, mobilization planning, and sequencing of work to align execution with project requirements. - Monitoring
and analyzing productivity and progress trends against budgets, estimates, or feasibility benchmarks, and reporting variances to support informed decision-making. - Managing
action items from project or client meetings by tracking follow-ups, coordinating with team members, and making recommendations to ensure timely resolution and progress.
