Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The National Billing Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the overall functions of the insurance billing, verification of benefits and financial counseling teams to maximize cash flow while building strong relationships with peers throughout the organization and with our clients. This position requires strong managerial, leadership, and business office skills, including critical thinking and the ability to analyze and present data.

Key Performance Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operations of the billing, verification of benefits and financial counselor teams, including, but not limited to behavioral health coding, charge entry, claims submissions, and admissions and financial forms.
  • Oversee the day-to-day work of each team to ensure that processes and procedures are followed, required billing information is gathered accurately, charges are posted correctly, and clean claims are submitted timely.
  • Develop and implement operational strategy for billing processes (including SOPs and policies) to meet established goals for charge lag and average days to submit claims.
  • Review and interpret operational data to assess needs for procedural revisions and enhancements and participate in the design and implementation of specific systems to enhance revenue and operating efficiencies.
  • Manage performance of team members to ensure that all established productivity and quality targets are met.
  • Track and monitor KPIs (documentation timeliness and accuracy, charge lag, clean claims) to ensure that department benchmarks and targets are met.
  • Work closely with VP of Revenue Cycle and Director(s) of Revenue Cycle to identify, escalate, and resolve issues within billing, verification of benefits, financial counseling to assist in overall collections.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Admissions, URM, etc.) to optimize processes for obtaining consents to treat, assignment of benefits, authorizations, and financial agreements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly managers meeting with Admissions and Utilization Review to collaboratively solve issues impacting all departments.
  • Hire and oversee training new members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's Degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience as a Medical Biller required or three (3) years' experience with psychiatric claims billing.
  • Minimum two (2) years of management or supervisory experience required.
