Job Summary

The Store Team Leader 2 assists the Store Leader, management team, and staff to execute store operational goals of the annual operating plan. This role makes judgments involving customers, team members, operational issues, business planning, priority setting, compliance with company policies, and all business areas. The Store Team Leader 2 will act as the Store Leader in their absence.

Example Duties and Activities

Operations - 50%

  • Drives completion of goals while balancing various business needs and adapting to changing needs. Identifies and filters appropriate recommendations for process improvement while maintaining quality standards..

  • Integrates, represents, and communicates Goodwill's Mission, Vision, and Values to internal and external customers at all times. Fosters innovation to meet customers' short- and long-term expectations, creating a customer-focused environment.

Staff Management and Development - 40%

  • Maintains a positive culture of open professional communication, immediate resolution of issues, and healthy confrontation within the site.

  • Fosters teamwork in a positive culture. Ensures team members are meeting production quotas through continuous training and development. Communicates site-specific goals and expectations to staff daily. Demonstrates a hands-on leadership approach while providing coaching and training to hourly employees on daily tasks.

  • Plans, organizes, and directs all activities of department associates including training and developing, maintaining accountability, motivating, monitoring productivity, communicating, and managing performance. Sets clear expectations while working closely with staff and outside resources to remove any significant work barriers to goal attainment.

  • Ensures employee performance, conduct, and attendance feedback is provided in a timely manner, and all required performance reviews are completed on time.

  • Ensures all associates are provided and have completed all training required to perform their jobs, and the training is completed appropriately. Ensures training processes and systems are maintained and continuously improved to enable goal achievement in a high-attrition environment.

  • Notifies Store Leader of potential staffing needs and participates in the hourly associate recruitment process including pre-screening and interviewing candidates, as needed.

  • Seeks out opportunities for professional development for both self and other team members.

Financial Management and Reporting - 10%

  • Acts as a good steward of resources available at the site including people, time, and money.

  • Tracks and measures day-to-day sales, production goals, payroll, and donations.

  • Completes supply ordering and provides process improvement for P&L strategy.

Required Competencies

  • Degree and Credential Requirements - High school diploma or GED or willingness to attain.

  • Supervisory Expertise - Oversees the work of others, either directly or indirectly, in a service-related industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, etc.)

  • Coaching - Provides timely guidance and effective feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.

  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

  • Customer Focus - Has the ability to see, comprehend and relate with customers in an impartial, unbiased yet effective and balanced manner; builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the organization; provides excellent service to internal and external customers.

  • Technical Knowledge - Has familiarity with computers and relevant software including MS Office Suite and Internet navigation skills. Familiarity with G Suite is a plus.

  • Results-Oriented - Is compelled to recognize what results are important and what steps need to be taken to achieve set goals or targets.

  • Critical Thinking - Uses judgment and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Ethical - Adheres to procedures and protocol, including maintaining confidentiality in passwords, logging on and off procedures, and adherence to Goodwill's values.

Preferred Competencies

  • Industry Expertise - Has worked in a warehouse environment and is knowledgeable of the organization, planning, time management, inventory control, equipment maintenance, teamwork, documentation, and data entry involved.

  • Hard to Very Hard Physical Work - Is able to spend time in excess of 8 hours sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Uses hands to grasp, carry, feel, or touch products and machinery. Has the ability to move and lift 10-50 pounds. Can manage frequent exposure to moderate noise and temperature variations. Is able to view a computer screen regularly.

  • Travel - Willing to travel to various retail locations as needed, including stepping in for Site Leaders, supporting locations in need, or contributing to site preparations leading up to grand openings. Flexibility to work at different sites for extended periods is essential to ensure operational continuity and team success. I started to use the Travel heading on some of the newer profiles and is one of the clean-up improvements when we decide to consolidate in the future.
