Description

The City of West Allis is seeking a qualified Full Time Commercial Electrical Inspector to perform inspections on residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and national codes, reviews plans and specifications, and issues electrical permits while working closely with contractors and property owners. You will perform inspections on new and existing residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations. You will work with contractors, owners and design professionals to ensure local, state and national electrical code compliance. You will examine technical drawings and equipment specifications in addition to issuing electrical permits.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, valid Wisconsin driver's license, State of Wisconsin Master Electrician License, and Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification, UDC Electrical Inspector Certification. Municipal inspector experience is greatly desired.

Examples of Duties

  • Perform inspections, review permits, and issue correction orders or correspondence for new construction, remodeling, demolition and occupancy in the City to ensure compliance with issued permits, approved plans, municipal ordinances, state codes, adopted national codes and standards, and state statues relating to construction.
  • Monitor and respond to phone calls, voicemail and email. Assist walk-in customers.
  • Obtain and maintain inspection certifications and code knowledge through examination, continuing education, training, mentoring, and subscriptions to websites and code services.
  • Review construction plans for compliance with codes and ordinances as an official delegated agent of the State of Wisconsin.
  • Drive personal vehicle or an employer issued vehicle to and from various job locations throughout the day.
  • Process code violations through the Municipal and County court system, appear as a witness for the city and provide testimony at depositions, municipal and circuit court.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • State of Wisconsin Master Electrician License, and Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification, UDC Electrical Inspector Certification
  • 2-3 years of recent construction, inspection, architecture, drafting, or other related building or construction trades or experience
