This role offers the opportunity to lead regional security services across a complex healthcare system, ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, caregivers, physicians, volunteers, and the communities Providence Health & Services serves. The Senior Director of Security plays a critical leadership role in advancing proactive, professional, and standardized security operations across diverse care settings.

The Role

The Senior Director of Security is accountable for the management and regional oversight of Security Services for all Providence Health & Services locations within the assigned region, including hospitals, clinics, and satellite locations. This role is responsible for developing and implementing annual budgets and operational plans, serving on and chairing system, regional, and divisional councils and committees, and reporting significant security matters to executive leadership.

The position has accountability for strategic planning, operational standardization, daily operations, and the personnel and financial management of Security Services across the region. The Senior Director ensures that the Security Management Plan is properly developed, effectively implemented, and maintained across applicable service areas.

The Senior Director serves as the primary security consultant to Providence Health System Real Estate Strategy and Operations (RESO), providing direct support for system-wide security assessments, incident management, and development of physical security standards. This role provides technical expertise and guidance to leaders and managers on security matters to protect staff, patients, and visitors, and works collaboratively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

What You'll Do



  • Provide regional leadership and oversight of Security Services across hospitals, ambulatory and urgent care centers, and business occupancies, including high-risk settings such as behavioral health, emergency departments, pediatric areas, NICUs, and Women and Newborn services.
  • Lead the development and adoption of security best practices, principles, policies, standards, and procedures across the region.
  • Develop, oversee, and serve as a technical expert for the regional Security Management Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies, including Environment of Care standards.
  • Collaborate with Real Estate Strategy and Operations on system-wide physical security standards and security response services.
  • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency response agencies to support coordinated crisis response and recovery.
  • Ensure standardized, high-quality security operations and services are delivered across the region.
  • Lead workforce planning and management for Security Services, including recruitment, training, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Coordinate investigation, identification, evaluation, monitoring, and mitigation of professional and general liability risk exposures.
  • Lead security education, training, and orientation programs, including in-service education.
  • Analyze and use data to support workplace violence prevention programs in collaboration with safety and clinical leadership.
  • Participate on system, division, and regional councils and committees representing Security Services.
  • Lead development and implementation of Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans (CEMP) and Business Continuity response plans.
  • Fulfill NFPA 99, Chapter 13 responsibilities as the designated security management authority.
  • Maintain professional affiliations and remain current on emerging security risks, technologies, and best practices.


What You'll Bring



  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Leadership, or a related field, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Master's degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Licensure / Driving Requirements
  • Driving may be required as part of the role. Caregivers must comply with applicable state laws and provide proof of valid driver's license and auto insurance upon request.
  • Experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of job-related experience with demonstrated subject-matter expertise.
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive leadership experience, including direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Preferred experience leading security operations in a multi-facility healthcare environment.
  • Law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Prior experience developing Emergency Management Plans for hospital disasters and Incident Command.
  • Experience with Canine Security programs preferred.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
