Engine Calibration Methodology Engineer

Engine Calibration Methodology Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and validating propulsion system calibration processes which achieve world-class range, fuel economy, and drivability meeting current and future emission standards. The engineer will develop new calibration processes for both virtual and physical testing resources using techniques such as MIL, HIL and Physical properties. This role will include cross functional interaction with different Center of Excellence (CoE) teams and support engineers. Process development will occur with new powertrain technologies such as ICE, xHEV and BEV configurations for both future and carry over applications. The engineer will develop disruptive technology processes that optimize the efficiency, quality, and product delivery for the calibration functions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:



  • Support construction of virtual models to simulate system performance
  • Provide expertise to correlate vehicle, dyno, and virtual datasets
  • Work with the CoE teams to ensure best practices are developed and followed
  • Provide guidance for calibrators to assure system performance objectives
  • Work closely with Virtual and HIL teams to ensure and define feature functionality
  • Need to understand the Hybrid and electrified powertrain controls algorithm developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK platform
  • Work with the data acquisition and analysis tools such as dSPACE Automation, Controldesk, ETAS-INCA, MDA

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines
  • Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
  • Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions development, engine technologies and competitive products
  • Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Inquisitive, attentive to details, process oriented, and ability to work independently
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in engineering
  • Experience related to engine system development including related technologies and subsystems such as combustion, valvetrain, fuel system, boost systems, EGR systems, and aftertreatment systems
  • Experience with engine dynamometer measurement systems, data acquisition, and data analytics
  • Work experience in spark ignition engine controls and calibration
  • Work experience with Design of Experiments, Engine Modeling, Artificial Neural Networks, Reactive Problem Solving, or statistics
