The Plant Manager at Airgas is responsible for the overall operational leadership and performance of a gas production facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing processes to meet production targets and customer demands. Plan, direct, and coordinate all efforts at the facility to achieve overall cost reduction, capacity increase, and customer satisfaction. The Plant Manager has ultimate responsibility for all operations within facility including safety, health, environmental, quality, production, analytical, distribution, material management, and maintenance performance

  • Operational Management: Oversee all aspects of plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality control, inventory management, and logistics, to ensure optimal efficiency and productivity.

  • Safety & Compliance: Implement and enforce robust safety programs and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to Airgas safety standards, OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance. Conduct regular safety audits and investigations.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor a high-performing team of plant personnel. Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth.

  • Production Planning & Execution: Develop and execute production schedules to meet customer orders and inventory targets. Monitor production metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to optimize output.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet Airgas quality specifications and industry standards. Implement and maintain quality control procedures and participate in root cause analysis for any quality deviations.

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the plant's operational budget, controlling costs, optimizing resource allocation, and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.

  • Maintenance & Reliability: Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs for all plant equipment and infrastructure to minimize downtime and ensure asset reliability.

  • Continuous Improvement: Champion continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing lean manufacturing principles and problem-solving methodologies to enhance operational performance, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency.

  • Inventory Management: Manage raw material, in-process, and finished goods inventory levels to optimize working capital and ensure product availability.

  • Regulatory Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all required operational, safety, and environmental data to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial), Operations Management, or a related technical field. A Master's degree is a plus.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations.

  • At least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role within a production plant, preferably in the industrial gas, chemical, or related heavy manufacturing industry.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing principles, quality management systems (e.g., ISO), and preventative maintenance programs.

  • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety with a proven track record of implementing and enforcing effective safety programs and achieving excellent safety performance. Knowledge of OSHA regulations is essential.

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

  • Experience with budget management, cost control, and financial reporting.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and process control systems.

  • Ability to travel occasionally as required for training, meetings, or other business needs.

  • Prior experience utilizing SAP preferred or a related system a plus. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite applications.

  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of how to leverage metrics and related tools to improve production efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with others in both favorable and unfavorable situations regardless of status of position.
