We're looking for an exceptional engineering leader to lead our AI Application Development organization, which powers hundreds of thousands of customers. This role is critical to Salesforce's platform strategy, driving foundational technologies such as Lightning Experience, Communities/Sites, rich Agentic experiences across channels (i.e. Slack, ChatGPT, etc.), low code application building tools, and core UI frameworks and runtimes.

Reporting directly to the EVP of Platform Engineering, you will serve as a key member of the platform engineering leadership team and a representative of these critical engineering functions to the broader company. This role is for a change agent-an executive who can set vision, influence product and engineering peers, operationalize excellence at scale, and deliver measurable outcomes.

This role sits at the heart of Salesforce's platform user experience and application building strategy. The technologies and experiences you'll oversee touch millions of users daily and enable thousands of developers to build on our platform. You'll have the opportunity to shape the future of enterprise AI experiences while driving fundamental improvements to our core platform capabilities.

Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver on our Agentforce vision, ensure our platform remains scalable and deeply customizable, and maintain Salesforce's position as the leading enterprise cloud platform. You'll build and lead an organization where engineers do the best work of their careers, creating technology that makes a meaningful difference for our customers and the world.

Key Responsibilities:

Agentic Experiences

  • Lead the development, delivery, and adoption of foundational cross-cutting Agentforce Experience Layer (AXL) technology

  • Incubate and deliver innovative AI-driven experiences and experience building tools, pro code through low code.

  • Partner with various organizations, such as Agentforce, to deliver an end-to-end Agentic experience for customers.

AI Engineering Evolution

  • Apply AI thoughtfully and strategically to enhance product capabilities, user experiences, and developer productivity

  • Champion the use of AI to accelerate engineering workflows, including test code generation, debugging assistance, and code quality improvements

UI Platform Engineering Leadership

  • Responsible for managing the primary UI frameworks (Lightning Web Components, React, Aura) on the platform that power B2B, B2C, and B2E experiences across desktop and mobile.

  • Lead the UI product, performance, stability, and accessibility initiatives of the core Salesforce App (Lightning Experience), requiring oversight of execution as well cross-organizational influence and collaboration.

  • Own the declarative app building experiences that enable customers, partners, and ISVs to build tailored solutions on the salesforce.com platform.

  • Own the Salesforce Setup framework and Setup Home

  • Own the Salesforce Experience Cloud, the digital experience platform (DXP) for building branded websites and portals.

  • Own the Salesforce CMS and digital asset management technologies.

  • Balance new innovation delivery along with improving/evolving/transforming highly adopted in-market products and services.

Cross-Organizational Programs

  • Champion and drive company-wide accessibility initiatives to ensure WCAG compliance and inclusive experiences

  • Lead right-to-left (RTL) language support implementation across the platform

  • Own platform-wide UI test frameworks, quality tooling (Jest, test code generation agents), and engineering productivity tools

  • Drive browser standards adoption and multi-UI language support

Performance & Quality

  • Drive measurable improvements in Lightning experience performance, including caching strategies, browser optimizations, and networking improvements

  • Partner with Customer Success on critical customer escalations

  • Drive engineering systems that are stable, fast, cost-efficient, secure, and inclusive by design

Strategic Collaboration

  • Work closely with product leadership across Sales, Service, Commerce, Marketing, and other clouds to power their own product roadmaps.

  • Partner with architects across the organization to align on technical strategies and platform standards

  • Collaborate with PM and UX leadership to deliver cohesive product experiences

  • Represent engineering in executive forums and customer engagements

Build a High-Impact, High-Trust Organization

  • Recruit, develop, and retain deeply skilled technical leaders across your domains

  • Instill a culture of rigor, metrics, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Lead with empathy, clarity, and a passion for helping engineering teams do the best work of their careers

  • Elevate engineering standards and operational maturity across large, distributed, multi-team organizations

  • Successfully manage and holistically iterate a geo-distributed organization spanning the US through India.

Required Experience:

  • 15+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years of VP/SVP-level leadership engineering teams

  • Led organizations with 2 or more layers, managing senior directors and directors who themselves lead multiple teams

  • A proven ability to elevate engineering standards and operational maturity across large, distributed, multi-team organizations within the existing staffing of the organization.

  • Demonstrated success driving accountability without direct control, influencing senior leaders through clarity, relationships, data, and strategic alignment

  • Proven ability to manage distributed leadership teams and organizations.

Technical Leadership

  • Deep technical expertise in web technologies, UI frameworks, and large-scale platform engineering

  • Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-team engineering initiatives

  • Strong architectural judgment and ability to set technical direction across clouds

  • Experience with AI/ML technologies and agentic experiences

  • Leadership in applying AI appropriately to products and services, balancing innovation with responsible deployment

  • Track record of leveraging AI to increase developer productivity through intelligent tooling, automation, and workflow optimization

Leadership & Influence

  • Ability to lead and inspire large engineering organizations

  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills with Product, UX, Architecture, Support, and Program Management teams

  • Track record of driving company-wide initiatives requiring influence without direct authority

  • Excellent executive communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex engineering concepts to C-suite leaders, non-technical stakeholders, and engineering teams alike

Execution Excellence

  • A bias for action, grounded judgment, and a focus on measurable outcomes

  • Proven ability to deliver on aggressive timelines requiring judicious tradeoffs

  • Strong operational discipline and ability to balance innovation with quality and stability

  • Experience managing technical debt while driving new capability development

  • Data-driven decision making and focus on measurable customer impact

Strategic Thinking

  • Ability to identify emerging technology trends and position the organization for future success

  • Experience incubating new technologies and transitioning them to production scale
