Parker Lord has immediate openings for the following role at the Robison Road facility in Erie, PA:

The Mill Room Operator position directly supports the High-Capacity Laminates (HCL) department, the largest department in the Parker Lord Erie plant. The Mill Room Operator is expected to perform labor activities such as weighing, mixing, milling, shaping, cutting, testing, and disbursing rubber materials. The Mill Room Operator is required to operate all equipment used to prepare said materials, such as large and small, HF 20L or 5L mixers, large and small mills, batch off machines, and test equipment.

This production area is responsible for the quality of product and workmanship and participate in activities designed to improve customer satisfaction, quality, and productivity. All Candidates must be able to work off shift (2nd or 3rd) for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Mix rubber and synthetic batches. Weigh ingredients to correct amounts, add to pre-weighed compound ingredients to be mixed in HF 20L or 5L mixer and/or mill. Feed material into machines; operate at proper temperatures and speeds to conform to specifications.
  • Calculate and weigh elastomer batches in accordance with established tolerances. Load elastomer batches onto trucks or skids and disburse to processing equipment.
  • Mill and mix rubber or synthetic batches from HF 20L or 5L to get proper blend and thickness. Make proper adjustments to rolls for thickness and temperatures. Guide material into roll and slab off and re-blend until mix conforms to batch specification. Slab off by hand or by automatic batch-off equipment and transfer stock to conveyer. Take test samples as required; identify all slabs of each batch.
  • Prepare and conduct required tests.
  • Form sheets of blended stock by processing batch slabs through blending mills. Regulate heat of rolls by adjusting steam and/or water valves, judging heat by action of rubber and by temperature gauge. Set thickness gauge using adjustment controls. Set position of knives to cut strips of material to desired size. Check thickness of material as it is removed from machine. Take test samples and identify material as required.
  • Enter various information and transactions into computer systems as required.
  • Manage raw material, stock room, and batch inventory records. Complete all related records and reports accurately and legibly as required, including certificate review on incoming elastomer materials.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly. Perform other similar and related duties.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Fluent in English, written and verbal
  • Understanding of simple mathematics

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of operations and control of various machines used for materials
  • Knowledge of compounds, formulas, and temperature variables and their affects
  • Knowledge of applicable software and blend programs

Work Experience:

Preferred:

  • 18-24 Months manufacturing experience

High School Diploma
