Remote Referral & Authorization Specialist (Must live near Phoenix) Position Summary The Referral and Authorization Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing patient referrals and authorizations to ensure timely access to complex specialty medical services. This role serves as a critical liaison between patients, providers, insurance carriers, and specialty offices to verify coverage, secure approvals, and support continuity of care. The ideal candidate brings strong medical terminology knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities * Ensure patients are properly cleared for specialty office visits prior to scheduling services * Obtain, process, and issue referrals for ancillary, consultative, radiology, and laboratory services * Secure prior authorizations and approvals for: * Specialty medical services * Medication formularies * Durable Medical Equipment (DME) * Home health care and related services * Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage requirements * Communicate effectively with patients, providers, payers, and internal teams to resolve authorization issues * Accurately document referral and authorization activity in accordance with organizational and payer guidelines * Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards * Support high-volume workflows while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail Required Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent (GED) * Minimum 2+ years of healthcare experience, with a strong preference for: * Specialty referral and authorization experience * Medical office or healthcare environment background * Solid understanding of: * Medical terminology (required) * Insurance verification and benefits * Referral processing and prior authorizations * Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills * Proven ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
