Description

Essential Functions:



  • With minimal supervision, perform all the duties of the Designer I position.
  • Provide design leadership through concept, prototype, pre-production and ECN release
  • Provide sustaining design support to existing products.
  • Ability to lead segments of a project from concept development through final release ensuring the overall project schedule and functional requirements are met.
  • Analyze structures/mechanisms and recommend design improvements utilizing engineering software (COSMOS and Dynamic Designer preferred).
  • Design complex components and assemblies utilizing CAD/Solid Modeling software with minimal supervision.
  • Perform design tasks incorporating knowledge of equipment capabilities, application techniques and design limitations.
  • Coordinate with internal/external model shops to obtain models/prototypes of designs using, but not limited to, SLA, SLS and LOM and apply knowledge of current technology to discover alternate prototyping techniques.
  • Generate files for various prototyping techniques.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments in troubleshooting and assist in determining desired outcome for new and existing products and tooling.
  • Communication with suppliers to optimize designs for cost and functionality.
  • Work with engineers and marketing staff in dynamic conceptual stages of projects.
  • Create ECN/ECR's, test procedures and requests.
  • Ensure that all product development processes and activities conform to Invacare's quality system.
  • In collaboration with QA/RA and in a pro-active manner, ensure that product development processes and activities meet appropriate domestic and international safety and quality standards.
  • Complete all required training applicable to assigned position.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of college or an Associates Degree in Drafting, Engineering, or Engineering Technologies preferred.
  • Five to seven (5 - 7) years of design experience including design layout, assembly, and detail drawing experience; with a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with Solid Modeling. (Solidworks preferred).
  • Experience working with an ECR/ECN process and manufacturing BOM systems.
  • Strong understanding of multiple manufacturing processes with the ability to design for manufacture.
  • Knowledge of multiple CAD software and operating systems (Solidworks, ProE and NT preferred).
  • Proven ability with single and multiple component manufacturing techniques including sheet metal bending, metal stamping, fabrication, extruding, injection molding and blow molding.
  • Successful experience in data file generation for 3D modeling systems.
  • Self-directed regarding project goals with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
