Summary

The Lead Analytics Engineer - Transformation is a hands-on builder who turns complex, fragmented manufacturing data into actionable insight that powers Lean transformation at Tempel Steel. Reporting to the Worthington Steel Transformation team, this highly visible role partners with Operations, Commercial, and Supply Chain leaders to design and deploy analytics that inform decisions, accelerate Kaizen events, and support the rollout of a modern operating system.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving, real-world environments where systems are evolving and questions change daily. You'll have the autonomy to use the right tools for the job, work directly with frontline teams, and see your analytics influence decisions where the work happens-on the floor, in Mission Control, and in leadership reviews.

**The position will be remote and is a field-embedded role requiring up to ~50% travel to Tempel facilities across the U.S. and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy analytics and reporting that enable fact-based decisions across manufacturing operations.
  • Rapidly ingest, integrate, and prepare data from ERP, MES/OT, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and finance systems using tools such as SQL, Python, Alteryx, and modern data platforms.
  • Develop dashboards, models, and decision tools using Tableau, Power BI, Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC), Excel, or other BI tools as appropriate, prioritizing speed and usability while maintaining a path to scalability.
  • Support Lean and CI execution by delivering analytics for Value Stream Analyses, Kaizen events, performance tracking, root cause problem solving, and leadership reviews.
  • Translate process concepts (VSMs, SIPOCs, CTQs) into clear metrics, visuals, and insights that teams can act on.
  • Work closely with transformation leads, plant leadership, IT, and analytics partners to align work with business priorities and sequence efforts for rapid impact.
  • Enable adoption by teaching users how to interpret and use analytics in daily operating rhythms, including Mission Control and performance boards.
  • Continuously improve analytics workflows by automating manual steps, improving reliability, and reducing cycle time from question to insight.

Qualifications

  • 5 plus years of experience in analytics engineering, BI, or data integration in manufacturing, operations, or supply-chain environments.
  • Strong SQL skills and practical experience using Python for data preparation and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or OAC; experience with Alteryx or similar prep/automation tools strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build solutions from scratch in environments with evolving systems and incomplete data.
  • Applied Lean/CI experience (Kaizen, DMAIC, SPC) translating process questions into analytics, Green Belt experience a plus.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across frontline teams and senior leaders.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first few months, you'll help teams answer critical operational questions faster, support Kaizen events with real data, and reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets. Over time, you'll help establish repeatable analytics patterns that scale across sites and future acquisitions.

Travel Requirement

Up to ~50% travel to Tempel Canada and U.S. locations to build relationships, understand processes firsthand, and accelerate adoption of analytics tools.
