Community Life (CL) is The Community Builders (TCB)'s place-based model that uses healthy and stable housing as a platform for connecting residents to services, community resources and opportunities so they can thrive. By creating programs and building strategic partnerships with residents and local stakeholders, CL helps create pathways to opportunities in early education, economic mobility, youth development, community engagement, voter registration, healthy living, and resident leadership.

The Community Life Coordinator role at TCB

The CL Service Coordinator (CLSC) works in close collaboration with TCB Property Management to ensure operational excellence at West Village Apartments. This position supports a collaboration between TCB and The Connection, Inc, (TCI), one of the largest providers of community-based services in Connecticut, who will provide on-site support for formerly unhoused individuals living at the property. In addition, the CLSC will coordinate consistent communication between stakeholders including residents, TCI, and TCB. The CLSC will plan resident-centered, trauma-informed programs and other opportunities working closely with residents and other local partners. This position has a requirement of five days a week in office.

Under direct supervision of the Community Life Senior Manager for New Haven, the Community Life Service Coordinator will:



  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with local service providers, organizations, and universities focused on health & wellness, resident leadership and housing stability.
  • Lead Community Life efforts in collaboration with TCB property management and TCI to develop annual one-year workplans outlining strategies, partnership development and activities that fit into the sites' strategic objectives.
  • Support residents experiencing housing instability by building trusting relationships and having a strong understanding of reliable, quality resources/organizations for which to make referrals, as needed; coordinate the implementation of the TCB Housing Stabilization Standard of Practice; collaborate with TCI when appropriate.
  • Foster and cultivate relationships with residents and encourage residents to engage within their community.
  • Facilitate coordination of TCB's Health Ambassador program; identify residents who want to stay active and help organize activities that promote health and wellness.
  • Conduct life skills and capacity building workshops in areas such as housekeeping, reading and understanding the lease, budgeting, and community engagement.
  • Report on progress through consistent documentation of work through CL's data management system.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure effective communication between the site team and community partners, agencies, funders, and TCB corporate support.
  • Ensure the collection and input of all program and performance data in the CL Connect database. Coordinate with partners for sharing of data and metrics.
  • Collect CLQs for 30% of residents each year and document in SurveyMonkey.
  • Represent TCB at various monthly community interagency meetings and report back to the team.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to best practices.
  • Prioritize tasks and communicate progress, problems, and needs for additional support.
  • Perform other project-related duties as needed.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Experience building and maintaining effective partnerships and working with social service providers and other organization.
  • Demonstrated management ability and interest in motivating and energizing site staff and partners
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in using data and evaluations to inform practice and program design
  • Experience engaging, communicating and collaborating with residents of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, including in areas relating to housing stabilization and goal-setting
  • Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills
  • Strong personal initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work independently


Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree preferred, Associates degree with 2+ years of experience with a focus in social work, human services, public health, or community development
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and other computer programs
  • Previous engagement, communication and collaboration with people of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds preferred
  • Experience working with partners and site team members to implement programs and initiatives
  • Knowledge of Yardi, Property Management databases, Dynamics and Power BI is a plus.
