Job Description

Summary:
The Printing Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing printing press equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production. This position performs preventive maintenance, responds to machine issues, troubleshoots printing problems, and supports daily production needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on printing presses and related equipment according to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly schedules.
  • Complete work orders and log tasks performed into the Berry PM Program daily.
  • Respond to maintenance tasks and machine issues with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Monitor PM assignments and ensure tasks are completed within required timeframes.
  • Maintain understanding of supplies, parts usage, and inventory procedures.
  • Record parts used each day by scanner or designated reporting method.
  • Assist printing production staff with daytoday machine problems.
  • Operate printing presses as needed to identify, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical or printing-related issues.
  • Diagnose printing defects and mechanical failures with the ability to repair root causes.
  • Communicate daily with incoming and outgoing maintenance technicians to ensure smooth shift transitions.
  • Maintain GMP/HACCP practices, sanitation and housekeeping standards, and all Food Safety and Safety procedures.
  • Follow and comply with all safety rules and precautions.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and maintain strong knowledge of best practices.
  • Maintain required certifications such as forklift training (if assigned) and participate in required technical training.
  • Support department goals-including MEEF, EFF, SCRAP reduction, and downtime reduction-through effective maintenance practices.
  • Assist with maintaining records related to maintenance activities, cost savings, and departmental budget tracking.
  • Support training documentation for the department by keeping accurate technical maintenance records.
  • Stop work and communicate immediately when equipment or processes pose an imminent safety risk.
  • Complete tasks in compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Competency Requirements:
  • Safety Awareness: Demonstrates strong adherence to safety procedures and actively participates in maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Accountability: Takes ownership of assigned tasks and follows through reliably.
  • Communication: Clearly communicates equipment issues, PM needs, and shift handoff details.
  • Engagement: Supports continuous improvement, brings forward concerns, and participates in safety and maintenance activities.
  • Technical Growth: Willingness to learn new processes, equipment updates, and printing technology.
  • Problem Solving: Effectively diagnoses mechanical and printing-related issues and identifies appropriate corrective actions.
Qualifications: Education and/or Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED; or
  • Three to six months related mechanical or printing experience/training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent; ability to interpret simple data and graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, verbal, or diagram-based instructions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical and printing problems.
Physical Demands:
  • Regular standing, walking, reaching, handling tools, talking, and hearing.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, or balancing.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work Environment:
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Possible exposure to high or elevated work areas.
  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and UV radiation.
  • Noise level is typically loud.
  • PPE required as assigned.
