Position Summary

The Director of Innovation for the Foglia Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation (FCATI) drives future inquiry, innovation, and collaboration in manufacturing and technology throughout McHenry County and the region. This position develops and enhances the FCATI as a connection center/hub for learning, for showcasing innovation, and for inspiring creative thinking that leads to progress. Key responsibilities include public engagement, event programming, partnership development, and cross-disciplinary integration of relevant topics into everyday life, focusing on current and future advances in all content areas. The Director of Innovation for the FCATI understands the key role technology plays in economic growth and development in our communities and encourages those on-campus and off-campus to engage and contribute to a better, healthier, and happier future. The Director understands the key role technology will play in continuing economic growth and development in our communities.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop, network, and maintain relationships with many agencies, organizations, museums, industries, public schools, and universities to promote technology-based exhibits, internships, shadowing, tours, forums, workshops, tournaments, and lectures. Connect citizens, faculty, and students with opportunities to engage in manufacturing and technology.
  • Work closely with the Director of Innovation for the Center for Agrarian Learning (CAL), as well as the Director of Innovation for the Liebman Institute for Science Innovation (LISI) to integrate shared, cutting-edge technology themes--pooling resources to accomplish larger community educational goals, industry products, and/or employment opportunities.
  • Coordinate and promote an Innovative Technologies Speaker Series, with support from Conference and Event Services.
  • Create and implement science-related on-campus, and field experiential learning opportunities, making connections between science, other disciplines, and everyday life.
  • Oversee the College's relationship with the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry's outpost housed within the FCATI building.
  • Promote the creative use of the IdeaWorks makerspace and FabLab for students, faculty, staff, administrators, industry prototyping, and community exploration.
  • Work closely with the Chief Advancement and Marketing Officer and the Office of Marketing and Creative Services to create, publish, and distribute an annual 12-month LSC calendar, event newsletters, and press releases.
  • Coordinate technology innovation activities and research projects to support the College's certificate and degree programs.
  • Work with the Grants Office and the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP) to design and implement research projects that engage MCC faculty, students, county residents, and area stakeholders.
  • Implement all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the College President

Skills and Specifications:
  • A strong technology background with diverse and broad knowledge to understand and support the diverse nature of FCATI programming.
  • Demonstrated experience and a sound understanding of manufacturing, technology, and innovation, including the application of research and development to economic development activities
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to establish and grow strategic partnerships
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to work and problem-solving
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets
  • Ability to work independently, yet have a strong collaborative spirit with the ability to develop productive working relationships at all levels
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technology-related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • 8+ years relevant experience in a manufacturing and/or technology-related field
  • Experience in program development and implementation
  • Experience in research and teaching within a technology-related program area
  • Experience in budgeting and expense projection

Desired Qualifications:
  • Community college teaching or research experience
