Organizational Overview

The Integrated Facility Management (IFM) Division, within the Facilities and Operations Directorate, is responsible to proactively and efficiently manage, maintain, and prepare the Laboratory's infrastructure for cutting-edge science now and into the future.

The Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) Divisions is seeking a Facilities Project Manager to report directly to the IFM Division Manager. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in the day-to-day maintenance and operation of facilities, paired with excellent customer service and organizational skills. This role requires the ability to manage multiple buildings and associated assets, prioritize competing demands, and maintain a high level of attention to detail while supporting Brookhaven National Laboratory's mission.

The employee will be assigned to the day shift Mon-Fri 8am to 4:30pm. This position reports to the IFM Division Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with building occupants and key points of contact.
  • Champion and coordinate responses to facility-related requests.
  • Conduct regular meetings with tenants to address operational needs and concerns.
  • Perform regular facility walkthroughs based on building needs and operational requirements.
  • Identify, track, and follow up on facility deficiencies and maintenance needs.
  • Ensure facilities are operated in compliance with laboratory regulations and best practices, while supporting tenant needs.
  • Support tenants in maintaining expected ES&H and housekeeping standards.
  • Act as the project lead and primary point of contact for all work performed within assigned facilities, including contractor and vendor activities.
  • Identify, scope, screen, and oversee facility projects and maintenance activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for emergency work orders within assigned buildings.
  • Review and provide feedback on requests for facility modifications.
  • Coordinate with the Facility Operations Center (FOC) Preventive Maintenance (PM) Group regarding equipment changes and new installations.
  • Identify planned changes in facility use (e.g., space reconfiguration, equipment changes, occupancy changes, work schedules) and coordinate with IFM engineering staff to assess impacts on building systems.
  • Keep the IFM Division Manager informed of issues that may impact facilities, personnel, operations, or the laboratory.
  • Participate in building assessments, inspections, and staff meetings as required.
  • Provide regular updates and feedback to laboratory management.
  • Review lessons learned and ensure similar conditions do not exist within assigned facilities.
  • Coordinate with the Emergency Preparedness Program to ensure compliance within assigned buildings.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the Emergency Services organization.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or technical discipline.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant facilities and operations experience.
  • Broad, working knowledge of facility system operations and maintenance, with a strong diagnostic and problem-solving approach.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and overseeing facility-related projects.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including:
  • One-line electrical diagrams
  • P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation) drawings
  • Architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant facilities and operations experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, steam, building envelope, and low-voltage systems.
  • Professional certification / training from a recognized facilities industry program (i.e. IFMA, BOMI, etc.)
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
  • Experience coordinating and interfacing with bargaining unit personnel.
  • Familiarity with the International building codes, OSHA, and NFPA standards.

The selected candidate will be placedat the appropriate professional level dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant experience, knowledge, and skills.

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Ability to use fixed and portable ladders.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Several facilities at BNL are radiological facilities and require special dosimetry and training for access. These will be provided by BNL as required. Ability to up to 50 lbs.

Other Information:

  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • This is a full-time on-site position at BNL.
  • Minimal travel may be required for employee training purposes.

Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $106,650 - $180,000/ year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
