Basic Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field. Also requires 2+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 months of job-related experience. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems for mission-critical applications
- Perform circuit analysis, component selection, and power system optimization with increasing independence
- Create detailed electrical schematics, support PCB layouts, and generate comprehensive technical documentation
- Lead power system testing, validation, and troubleshooting to ensure performance requirements are met
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate power solutions into larger system architectures
- Perform thermal analysis and develop thermal management solutions for power electronics
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on power system design
- Participate in and contribute meaningfully to design reviews
- Analyze and resolve power quality issues including ripple, noise, efficiency optimization, and control loop stability
- Support prototype development, testing, and transition to production
- Assist with component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal power system solutions

We Encourage You to Apply if You Have Any of These Preferred Skills or Experiences:
- 3-5 years of experience designing AC-DC and/or DC-DC power converters
- Knowledge of power supply topologies (buck, boost, flyback, forward converter, full-bridge, etc.)
- Experience with switch mode DC-DC converter design including control loop stability analysis
- Understanding of 3-phase AC-DC conversion principles
- Proficiency with power electronics simulation tools (LTSpice, PSIM, PLECS, or similar)
- Experience with PCB design tools (Altium, OrCAD, or similar) for power electronics
- Understanding of EMI/EMC considerations and mitigation techniques in power system design
- Knowledge of magnetic component design (transformers, inductors) and supplier collaboration
- Experience with thermal analysis tools and cooling solutions
- Familiarity with military power standards (MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1399, etc.)
- Understanding of power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, diodes) and gate drive circuits
- Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, thermal cameras)
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements for power systems
- Experience with ruggedized or high-reliability power system design
- Understanding of power factor correction (PFC) techniques
- Familiarity with digital control and microcontroller-based power management
- Experience supporting power systems through qualification testing
- Knowledge of component derating and reliability analysis

Workplace Options: This position is fully on-site While on-site, you will be a part of the Progeny Manassas, VA Team. Target salary range: USD $90,833.00/Yr. - USD $100,767.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary.
