This is a/an 83.3% full-time equivalency (FTE) job with months off. The number of months off will be determined by the position's FTE percentage. The timing of months off will be set to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. The salary grade and range listed in the posting is reflective of a 100% Full-time position. POSITION SPECIFICS

This job will be 80% to 100% full time job equivalency (FTE), which will bedeterminedwith the successful applicant. For any FTE less than 100%, the typical schedule includes40 hoursper week during the academic year, with summers off. Full Penn State benefits are included.

The Pennsylvania State University, Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), University Park, PA, has a Psychiatric Nurse position startingAugust 10, 2026.

The Psychiatric Nurseassistspsychiatric providerslocatedatUniversity Park CAPS.This position provides directpatient care in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary teamofCAPS.Support to the psychiatric providers and studentsincludes communication with pharmacies and insurance companies, coordination of lab orders and results, administrative outreach to students,andrecords management and assistance.Common offices that the psychiatric nursecoordinateswithare(among others) Student Disability Resources, University Health Services,and Community Providers.Participation in weekly staff meetings,consultation, and professional development is included in the typical expectationsfor this role.

All staff perform their duties while adhering to and promoting trauma-informed care and healing-centered approaches and principles, in alignment with the establishment of the Commonwealth of PA as a trauma-informed, healing-centered state.

Duties include:

  • Obtaining a medical assessment at the intakeappointment(obtaining vital signs and medical history from students)

  • Meetingwith students for monitoring purposesbetween their regularly scheduled psychiatric appointments

  • Triagingof patient phone calls and messages

  • Providingpsychoeducation to students

  • Communicatingwith pharmacies and insurance companies

  • Coordinatinglab orders and results

  • Providingoutreach to students for scheduling or administrative purposes

  • Assistingwith student-requested forms and documentation

  • Coordinatingdocumentation withuniversity and community stakeholders

Preferred Experience

  • Candidates should have the ability to provide services to a wide range of students and workwitha wide range of staff.

  • Experience working in the mental health care field ispreferredbutnotrequired.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $74,000.00.
