About the Role
We are looking for someone to join the Gore Medical Products Design Assurance Durability Lab Team. This role draws upon engineering knowledge and skills to understand existing durability test equipment and fixturing capabilities. It requires hands-on work to refine and/or develop fixtures and/or equipment to allow for the evaluation of material, component and product durability. This role is in support of New Product Development (NPD), working cross functionally with Reliability Engineers, other technical associates, and external partners. This role will be located at our facility in Phoenix, Arizona.
Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of existing durability test methods and existing durability test equipment capabilities, perform durability testing in support of NPD projects
- Design and develop new and modified durability test fixturing, methods, and equipment in support of NPD projects
- Develop guidance documents to help guide the use of specific equipment for specific testing
- Work with Reliability Engineers across NPD to proactively understand durability testing needs; develop and validate, as necessary, device, coupon, and surrogate test methods, fixturing and/or equipment to fulfill those needs using data acquisition or vision technology
- Perform statistical analyses, as needed, to characterize tests, with subsequent documentation to share that knowledge
- Interact broadly with diverse team members from across NPD, including engineering technicians, designers, researchers, scientists, technologists, engineers, project managers and leaders
- Maintain compliance with training expectations as required for this position
- Perform additional responsibilities as required within the scope of this position
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering with experience in a technical internship or a minimum of 1 year relevant technical experience
- Record of and enthusiasm for digging into technical projects with hands on problem solving, using effectively collated and analyzed results to influence test method and product development
- Knowledge of CAD software, SolidWorks preferred, including drawing creation and 1D tolerance analysis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Desire to work in a hands-on laboratory team setting, integrating engineering fundamentals with clinical requirements to create clinically relevant benchtop durability tests
- Ability to independently prioritize, initiate, and drive projects to completion in an environment with evolving day to day situations
- Ability to work effectively in team situations as well as independently
- Ability to travel up to 25% between Gore Durability Labs in Flagstaff and Phoenix with possible travel to appropriate conferences and/or appropriate society meetings
Desired Qualifications
- M.S./M.Eng. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering or a related field with transferable knowledge with a minimum of 2 years applicable experience
- Hands-on experience with fatigue and creep testing; including device, coupon/surrogate and/or material durability testing or testing to failure for implantable medical products
- Experience in a highly regulated medical, aerospace, or automotive industry
