Position Highlights

The University is looking for an Equipment Mechanic II to repair and maintain Campus Recreation buildings and grounds. This includes drywall repair, painting, plumbing and some electrical, as well as swimming pool maintenance and field maintenance. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Facilities and may require some evening and weekend work.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs more complex plumbing, carpentry maintenance and repairs; to include replacing solenoid valves, switches, constructing partitions and small outbuildings, installing plumbing pipe and related plumbing fixtures.
  • Performs general painting, plumbing, and carpentry repairs; to include unstopping clogged sinks, drains, repairs damaged walls and doors; paints inside and outside building walls; replaces windows; refinishes and repairs furniture and fitness equipment.
  • Schedules and performs routine maintenance and assist in the repair on all fitness equipment (i.e. bikes, treadmills, weight equipment) along with all backboard, rims, other sports equipment along with the upkeep of all vans and trailers for Outdoor Adventures.
  • Assists with the overall plan for ongoing field maintenance, assist with sand volleyball court maintenance, assist with research, selection, and purchase of maintenance equipment, assist with overall maintenance of the pool, assist with tennis court cleaning and maintenance, assist with inventory, ordering and tracking of all maintenance equipment and supplies.
  • Handles all maintenance projects for Campus Recreation facilities.
  • Oversees inspections and safety checks of all Campus Recreation facilities and ensures compliance with all university, city and county health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinates warranty-related repair work when necessary for the facilities and equipment.
  • Uses power and hand tools to perform repair and maintenance work.
  • Operates dollies and other basic loading and unloading equipment as required.
  • Drives trucks to transport materials such as furniture, supplies or equipment as required.
  • Services equipment for all Campus Recreation vehicles, cart, and trailers used by oiling, greasing and adding gas as required and ensuring other vehicle equipment upkeep is performed by motor pool.
  • Provides technical direction, coordinates the work schedules and reviews the performance of assigned personnel.
  • Installs and maintains fixtures within all facilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of building structure and equipment maintenance/repair techniques.
  • Skill in applying building and equipment maintenance/repair technique.
  • Skill in diagnosing problems in basic mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety and risk management issues.
