The Role

As a senior staff member serving the Finance and Operations and the Impact and Evidence leadership teams, the Managing Director, Portfolio Management - International (M3) will oversee financial operations for the entire portfolio of international programming, both implemented in Home Office and through Save the Children International. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that Save the Children's program leads are equipped with high-quality financial support for critical activities including budget proposal development, awards and contract management, annual budget development, and routine budget vs. actual analyses. You will work in partnership with the department head and program leaders to set priorities, allocate resources, establish plans, solve complex problems and develop policies and procedures that mitigate risk and create large-scale efficiencies. You will also lead a team of portfolio professionals and subject matter experts responsible for overall awards management and regional financial management for a portfolio of assigned countries. You will act as a business partner for both SCUS and SCI country stakeholders, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Financial Budgeting and Analysis (30%)



  • Plan, monitor and manage overall financial operations across multiple country teams; overseeing project planning, budgeting and spending, grant management, and staff resourcing.
  • Conduct regular analysis of financial data, and prepare financial performance reports including, but not limited to, budget vs. actual, forecast expenses, and trends
  • Partner with program leadership team, identifying and addressing financial risks and opportunities, solving complex financial problems and establishing policies and procedures
  • Ensure efficient use of resources, overseeing finance teams and budget holders to ensure they are maximizing funds
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis reports to senior leadership as requested


Country Office Partnership and Support (25%)



  • Develop relationships with SCI and country offices, clarifying roles and responsibilities across the movement and ensuring they are equipped with the necessary financial tools and information to effectively implement the award.
  • Coordinate with regional and country office leadership to establish effective strategies to identify and mitigate risks within the portfolio; escalating issues as appropriate
  • Oversee and lead the development of systems and structures for consistent SCUS financial oversight of the international portfolio for the entire life cycle of awards.
  • Analyze and support on coding for SCI member control and seconded staff


Award Management (20%)



  • Work with Program and Finance Leadership Teams to proactively identify funding gaps and provide strategic guidance to fundraising teams to ensure our funding is aligned with our strategy
  • Lead development of cost models in support of our strategy
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with federal and established donor requirements
  • Conduct quarterly process monitoring assessments
  • Maintain comprehensive award timeline report
  • Review and approve proposals, agreements, and amendments for compliance with any applicable donor regulations.
  • Review & sign off on donor reports


Lead a high-performing team that operates with excellence (25%)



  • As a member of the Impact and Evidence team and Finance and Operations team, actively participate in meetings and contribute to the overall strategy and direction of the department and division.
  • Serves as the lead for the International Portfolio department, responsible for establishing a healthy workplace culture and setting the team pace and direction; promoting staff development, engagement and well-being while holding supervisors and staff accountable for achieving results, demonstrating the organization's core values, and operating within our ethical standards.
  • Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission and supports Save the Children values


Required qualifications for the role



  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in nonprofit financial management, grant management, and subaward management.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English


    Compensation

    Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:



    • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $143,650 - $160,550 base salary
    • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $130,900 - $146,300 base salary
    • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $116,875 - $130,625 base salary


    The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
